But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.

Anyway. When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself.

Don’t be a sack of crap, MG.
Someone (MG?) recently pointed out that a person can always justify what they do or don't do.

As I referred to earlier, probably on a different thread, it's really easy to treat someone badly, knowing that you shouldn't, and use the excuse that "they deserved it". I remember hearing that excuse many years ago. But I'm in no position to judge - I do the same thing. I'm just surprised that MG isn't operating on a higher level than I am in this respect.
Turning the other cheek does not mean being subject to another person's bad behavior in respect to that person essentially calling me a racist. I find that profoundly disturbing and believe that sort of false innuendo/accusation needs to be called out for what it is. Lying.

I realize that I am on the tail end of a long thread, but I wanted to have my say. It is not Alligator Alcatraz. It is Alligator Auschwitz. It is illegal. It is unconscionable. Thank you.

My take on this: for you, then, turning the other cheek does not mean simply turning the other cheek.

It means, as far as I can see, what it has always meant - you draw a line of your choosing, and comfort level. Then on one side of that line you turn the other cheek, but on the other you strike back. Because the person who offended you deserves it, you feel entitled, and that is justification enough for you.

Again, I'm trying not to be judgmental about where your line is - just trying to disentangle the TTOC concept you say you espouse from your implementation. No doubt you'll tell me if and where my analysis is wrong.

I don't consider my interaction with Marcus a "strike back". I pointed out the fact that she had lied. A lie should simply be called out and not ignored.

Earlier I responded to Doc with TTOC. He was simply doing what he does. Using bathroom language trying to get a rise. I knew from past experience that this behavior would most likely escalate if I responded.

It is at times like this that I figure "What's the use, move on".

It is deeply troubling that America now treats people this way. I think it’s time to send the Statue of Liberty back to France.
in court filings, the U.S. Justice Department has claimed that "not implemented, authorized, directed, or funded Florida's temporary detention center" — despite the fact that immigration enforcement is handled by the federal government.
So there’s a new entity funding and operating this, outside of the actual Justice apparatus of the Federal Government.
Numerous detainees, their families, and their lawyers have already alleged inhumane and unsafe conditions, including maggoty food and overflowing toilets.
Why hasn’t the Church got volunteer “Helping Hands” down there providing proper food and clean water etc? Is it not good enough PR? Do the Brethren think these people are not to be helped for some reason?
Detainees are kept in metal cages, with dozens of people packed into each one, housed inside gigantic heavy-duty tents in the sweltering heat. Even the staff appear to be based in temporary prefab huts and mobile trailers parked nearby.

Detainees and their families have reported worm-infested food, routine medical neglect, unreliable air conditioning, and inadequate toilets that overflow and cover the floor with faeces.

Government officials have adamantly disputed these accusations, but have provided few details and have denied access to the media. In total, there are currently around 3,000 beds.

“They have no way to bathe, no way to wash their mouths, the toilet overflows and the floor is flooded with pee and poop,” said the wife of one 35-year-old Cuban detainee. "They eat once a day and have two minutes to eat. The meals have worms."
Why is America treating people like this? Why hasn’t the Church spoken up to say that treating people this way is inhumane and morally wrong? Why are those 15 Men in SLC saying nothing about this? Taking no stand on it when how these people are being treated is a moral issue. Do they think there aren’t members among them so they don’t need to bother? They have been completely cowed by Trump, willingly it seems.

MG, it's very hard to make sense of your position here. On the one hand, you claim to have voted for Harris, but on the other, you are fully committed to Trump's immigration "enforcement," which is the main platform he ran on. If Harris had won, wouldn't we be continuing with the same policies that according to you, are the cause of an apparent crisis we face?

I take that as confirmation that there is a line - in these cases a characterisation that you disagree with, or language you deem inappropriate - that determines whether you will turn the other cheek, and/or announce that you are doing so.

This is not an accusation, simply an observation.

News to me. Based on your postings, I would have thought you had been fully committed after a commitment hearing.
