When you preface a sentence with “I think”, what follows is conjecture. Baseless conjecture is how you roll. It’s your core modus operandi. No amount of evidence can dissuade you from anything you choose to believe. You’re not here to discuss, you’re here to deny.
I wouldn't think what I think if it was "baseless". That would be dumb.

MG
I never underestimate your capacity for dumb.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

So you're literally doing it for the children? So to do that you're focused on taking parents out of the church? That's why you're here? The thing is, your pool of potential converts is very small. The chance of your having any indirect influence on children seems VERY small.

You do know this is mainly an echo chamber, right? No children are listening. Any parents here have already steered their children away from the church. Why not just live and let live?

MG
I didn't say that was why I was here. I merely stated that is one of the glaring harms among many the man made church perpetuates. I am not looking for converts and don't participate in a group echo chamber every Sunday and twice during the year. Why didn't Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks just live and let live?
I sometimes wonder just what MG 2.0 thinks this board is. And as for “live and let live” - is he suggesting that the Church cease proselytising missions? Because, you know, non Mormons should be left alone and non Mormon parents not pursued by Missionaries? Because that would be an intellectually consistent stance based on what he has said to you Rivendale.

As I said earlier, predicted and canned response.

Apologists like DCP have asserted that to cede this point is death to the Mormon religion. They point to the failure of the Community of Christ as the proof of this.

I’m not sure they’re wrong. I think if you throw away the historicity, the LDS church may indeed collapse to a fraction of what it is now. I’d love to be wrong about that though.
How does one go about proving that unfounded belief in the literal historicity of the Book of Mormon is the primary reason why the LDS Church is more successful than the Community of Christ?
Kish, isn’t this more related to setting than scripture?

(As regards where each of the two versions of the Church evolved.)

Would I also be right in thinking that you do not belong to an organization that has raised up an army of fellow disbelievers to go door-to-door inviting Mormons to "discuss" with then why Mormonism is wrong? If such existed, would you accept their leaders' call to go on a self-financed mission, or senior mission? Perhaps we should all join Berean Research.

I would add that, as a former believer in Mormonism, I can still see the wisdom in the following:
D&C 88:81 wrote:Behold, I sent you out to testify and warn the people, and it becometh every man who hath been warned to warn his neighbor.
OTOH, although I have shared my views of Mormonism with several people, I don't feel compelled to go out of my way to warn everyone I meet.

Edit: fixed typo

Unreal. Just to remind the one who trolls, he posted this:

Hello to the same old players. It's been a few months since I've checked to see what is happening around here.

Not much new to shout about, huh?

Same stuff. Criticize the leaders. Money issues. Book of Mormon historicity. Purported organizational missteps. Accusations of dishonesty and evil doing. Dissing Christianity as a whole. Oh yeah, Dr. Peterson too.

Etc.

If you folks were to be paid for your work here it would be a fairly healthy second income.

And you wouldn't have to pay tithing!

Step outside and breathe. Hug a child. Serve a neighbor. Take a drive. Read a good book. Have a real life conversation. Get off the dang keyboard!

I was going to hop in and add my two cents on a thread or two, but then I thought...why? ;) I'd like to see something new or interesting to comment on but, alas, that doesn't seem to be a possibility. Why join in on a thread if it's just a rehash of a rehash?

If I see something that sparks my interest...maybe...
He comes here specifically to try to disrupt conversations, distract, and provoke, but his advice TO OTHERS is 'Why not just live and let live?'

This type of behavior just reinforces his status as a troll.
