They will never quit missions. It is an efficient way to guarantee converts and by that I mean the missionaries themselves. However if you believe the current statistics many RM's don't stay active upon returning. I also thought the Christian mantra to always be prepared to give answers for your faith and somewhat affiliated whenever there are two or more you are justified in judging another person (technically another Christian). That doesn't sound like live and let live.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 5:35 pmI sometimes wonder just what MG 2.0 thinks this board is. I don't know that this explains the purpose/motivation for critics that spend a lot of time here. No doors. No people except lurkers. Missionaries go out to make contact and teach those that voluntary decide to listen to their message. Comparing that to critics on a message board essentially talking among themselves in an echo chamber is really not a good comparison in my opinion.malkie wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 6:32 pmWould I also be right in thinking that you do not belong to an organization that has raised up an army of fellow disbelievers to go door-to-door inviting Mormons to "discuss" with then why Mormonism is wrong? Re: Excellent takedown of Mopologist DNA misinformation
And I'm still questioning why you're here? I would say the same thing again as you have quoted me above. And I repeat again as I've done before...why take the time to go trolling me around? I think if I was to ask you whether or not I'm worth your time you would say no.Marcus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 7:02 pmUnreal. It's been a few months since I've checked to see what is happening around here.
Not much new to shout about, huh?
Same stuff. Criticize the leaders. Money issues. Book of Mormon historicity. Purported organizational missteps. Accusations of dishonesty and evil doing. Dissing Christianity as a whole. Oh yeah, Dr. Peterson too.
Etc.
If you folks were to be paid for your work here it would be a fairly healthy second income.![]()
And you wouldn't have to pay tithing!
Step outside and breathe. Hug a child. Serve a neighbor. Take a drive. Read a good book. Have a real life conversation. Get off the dang keyboard!
I was going to hop in and add my two cents on a thread or two, but then I thought...why?I'd like to see something new or interesting to comment on but, alas, that doesn't seem to be a possibility. Why join in on a thread if it's just a rehash of a rehash?
If I see something that sparks my interest...maybe...
This type of behavior just reinforces his status as a troll.
And yet, here you are?

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

It sounds almost as if you've never done anything just because it interests you - one possibility for some. And that you feel as if everything needs some grand motivation.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 7:49 pmI don't know that this explains the purpose/motivation for critics that spend a lot of time here. In any case, in spite of your insistence on answers, both now and in the past, nobody here owes you any explanations for why they participate, how often, or how much.

My guess is it's more or less 'tribal'. Exmormons and critics have a common sense of belonging together and sharing their angst or other common attributes. Mormons do it too in their own sort of way as they attend church. Humans are just built that way.malkie wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 11:03 pmIt sounds almost as if you've never done anything just because it interests you - one possibility for some. The thing that I find unique here though after a long period of time is that folks keep coming back and keep up with the same or similar themes of angst and criticism. I would think that this might not be healthy, but to each his or her own.
It surely isn't to make friends with members of the church! There have been many times when I wished folks here were a bit more vulnerable and shared more about their own personal beliefs rather than tearing others down. I have very little if any idea what sorts of beliefs, if any, folks have around here. After all this time it would be interesting to know what 'floats one's boat' in a religious/spiritual sense after Mormonism.

Re: Excellent takedown of Mopologist DNA misinformation
Rightly or wrongly, some folks here are suspicious of attempts to uncover personal information, and find it a bit creepy when someone insists on knowing, for example, the sex/gender of another board member in order to "know how to interact" with them. You've been around here long enough to know that there have been, and may still be, attempts to doxx, or "out" participants, and to interfere with them professionally, and that personal emotional harm has been inflicted on folks who participate on the board. At least one current participant has had that unpleasant experience.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 11:42 pmMy guess is it's more or less 'tribal'. Asking for vulnerability may just make folks feel less safe. Perhaps it's best to let people disclose what they feel like, without being badgered?
It's not my responsibility to tell you this - I'm sure you're aware of all of it - nor to tell you how to conduct yourself, but I hope that my attempt to make some of these ideas explicit may at least lead to a bit of introspection before interrogation.
