Egyptian astronomers cared about the ecliptic. They used the movement of the sun around the ecliptic, as tracked by pre-sunrise and post-sunset observations, to keep track of the seasons in a way that didn’t get confused by variations of weather. From this they could tell ahead of time when the Nile would flood, at least to within a few days or so, so they could organize for the event.

Unfortunately for Joseph Smith, modern Egyptology is able to decipher the Egyptian language and terminology and it does not bode well with Smith's translation for certain words he claimed are Egyptian and others as Hebrew:

Joseph Smith made up words to suit his own fancy. He did not know Egyptian and neither did his Spirit® by which he operated! It's all BS. From my experience, which may or may not be reflective of the general situation, most active Mormons are unaware there’s an issue with the Book of Abraham. They are unaware of the Church’s official apologetic efforts - the essays. And I think the Church is quite happy to keep it that way. That’s why new essays aren’t announced, they are slipped in quietly. It’s not because they want the critics not to notice, but because they don’t want the members to notice and start contemplating what it’s all about.

You’ve got critics and apologists in one space debating the problematic points, and you’ve got the active members in another space, blissfully unaware of both of them.

Premortal Existence
Council in Heaven and Foreordination
Exaltation and Eternal Progression
Plurality of Gods and Creation "Ex Materia"
Specific Teachings on the Priesthood

It is those doctrines that are primary in the hearts and minds of those that believe in the prophethood of Joseph Smith and the restoration of eternal truths.

None of the above claims change the FACT that ancient Egypt existed long BEFORE 2300 BC. Mormons want the world to embrace their priesthood and their man-made ideas of a Penis-God while subverting true Egyptian history in favor of a false narrative invented by Joseph Smith who lied about virtually everything he ever said. The man was an absolute liar. I know this to be so.
