I believe you’re both correct. And of course the church is also completely opaque on its finances so we have to simply take their word for it.

To be fair the Church does audit itself, so that’s definitely trustworthy. Even though those auditors have said everything was legit when in fact the Church was running a shell company scheme to nefarious withhold reporting information and declarations, and illicitly avoiding tax payments. The Church auditing department just recites whatever conclusion the First Presidency tells them to recite. They obviously don’t check anything, they’re obviously not independent, and they’re obviously either incompetent or dishonest.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Oaks gave either a fist pump or a nod to the auditor who gave his report at general conference the year the SEC scandle broke.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 7:10 pmTo be fair the Church does audit itself, so that’s definitely trustworthy. Whether they have built 20 or 30 years of financial reserves, I believe the church’s own framing of its activities applies. Replace “the church” with “the savior.”
Can any true christian actually believe that Jesus, the savior of the world, would save 20 to 30 years of money for an unspecified rainy day?
Of course not.

If the auditing department is anything like the auditing procedures/practices at the local level...I think you might be mistaken. I'm financial clerk in our ward and can see how the 'sausage is made' at the local level. Auditing and tracking and approval of ALL expenses and donations is strictly done. The church does look out for the widow's mite. The thing is, in today's world and in a large institutional structure like the church there needs to be some give and take for things to work out at the macro level. As it is, the church is healthy and vibrant in both its finances and more importantly, the spiritual health of its members who have a testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Mon Aug 25, 2025 7:10 pmTo be fair the Church does audit itself, so that’s definitely trustworthy. It is those that have lost that testimony that seem to put money above EVERYTHING else.

That's just utter BS, predictably posted by the mental gymnast who trolls our forum...I'm financial clerk in our ward and can see how the 'sausage is made' at the local level. Auditing and tracking and approval of ALL expenses and donations is strictly done. The church does look out for the widow's mite. Says the mental gymnast. And of course it clearly is not. There's a reason Utah is number one in incidences of affinity fraud....If the auditing department is anything like the auditing procedures/practices at the local level...

Yes, it is BS. I know for a fact that MG is NOT the financial clerk.Marcus wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 10:14 pmThat's just utter BS, predictably posted by the mental gymnast who trolls our forum...I'm financial clerk in our ward and can see how the 'sausage is made' at the local level. I cannot figure you out, Wang. As a matter of fact, I am the financial clerk. Why do you lie? What do you have to gain? Surely it can’t be any degree of respect?Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 11:27 pmYes, it is BS. I know for a fact that MG is NOT the financial clerk.
