Look around you at the religious folks in your country, including those who are religious leaders - especially, it seems, the "religious" right. They are very adept at making stuff up, and at supporting made-up stuff. They think nothing of preaching the opposite of what was taught by the Jesus they purport to follow. No wonder people are leaving religion - including varieties of Christianity, and Mormonism. How many of your fellow Utahns voted for Trump?
Remind me - how is it we know if people are Jesus' disciples?
Give me an agnostic any time, rather than one of these faux "Christians".
I agree that believing in the Book of Mormon would be dangerous. Just like believing in dianetics, or any other religious fairy tale.

The mental gymnast doesn't 'appreciate' being called a bigot. Simple solution: stop being a bigot.

The Nephites and their fictional history will never be studied in secular colleges. No one will get a degree in Lamanite studies.
But actually… if Trump is any sign of the future… then maybe they will.

Most Mormons reject Scientology (and any other religious sect) because it’s not the one they were born and brought up in. It really is as simple as that.

I reject it because it doesn’t allow for a creator God. In the sense that we are created after His image and that God created the earth and all that is in it.drumdude wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 4:37 amDo you reject Scientology because you don’t want to live the Scientology lifestyle? So, you're rejecting Scientology not because it's a ridiculous pyramid scheme/cult founded by a pulp fiction author, but because it lacks a "creator God"? Wow, that's truly profound. You're basically saying, "I can't get behind this particular ridiculous pyramid scheme/cult because it doesn't align with something in my own ridiculous pyramid scheme/cult."
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."

He has to make this ridiculous argument to maintain his belief that we’re not practicing Mormons because it’s “too difficult to live the law.”Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 9:59 pmSo, you're rejecting Scientology not because it's a ridiculous pyramid scheme/cult founded by a pulp fiction author, but because it lacks a "creator God"? That seems to what a number of critics online are referring to when they call the LDS Church a “high demand religion”. I’ve heard that now a number of times.drumdude wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 10:33 pmHe has to make this ridiculous argument to maintain his belief that we’re not practicing Mormons because it’s “too difficult to live the law.”Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 9:59 pmSo, you're rejecting Scientology not because it's a ridiculous pyramid scheme/cult founded by a pulp fiction author, but because it lacks a "creator God"? Not sure what you mean by “this ridiculous argument”. That there would be a creator God? What is so ridiculous about that?

Re: Excellent takedown of Mopologist DNA misinformation
Well, when people talk about the Mormon church being a "high demand religion," I think they're simply being dramatic. I mean, it's only a tenth of your income, a lifetime of service, and a wardrobe of silly/sacred underwear. These aren't demands, they're more like suggestions... really, really strong suggestion that are tied to your eternal salvation and your family.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 11:56 pmThat seems to what a number of critics online are referring to when they call the LDS Church a “high demand religion”. Of course, the idea of a creator Mormon God isn't ridiculous. It's perfectly reasonable. What could possibly be more logical than an all-powerful being who created the entire universe but is also deeply concerned with your underwear and whether you drink coffee? It all just makes perfect sense. And as a bonus, this Mormon God will occasionally help you find your car keys. Just don't make this Mormon God angry, you wouldn't like him when he's angry.
That's some great missionary work, fibber MG.
