Did you not read Bret’s post? He introduced her.
But the information I provided paints an interesting picture that needs to be part of the story. Elizabeth and Martha went two VERY different ways in regard to their testimony of Christ and the Restoration. The same sort of thing happens today quite often.

Elizabeth does not negate the sexual improprieties attempted on Martha. Elizabeth does not whitewash Smith's, Young's and Kimball's abhorrent behavior.

She did contest Marth's reliability and motives. The whole thing is rather confusing in some respects. I've already stated my question as to Martha's motives and why she did what she did. Others did also:
It boggles my noggin' that people can read that and think "Yup, those were totes men of God, only doing what Jesus wanted them to do."
I have heard believers justify the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I have heard believers justify child marriages. I have heard believers justify polygamy. I have heard believers justify lying for the lord. I have heard believers justify people who die agonizing deaths.
Within the entirety of the human experience there is no moral travesty that can't be run through the Mormon machine to exit as the divine will of a reanimated primate who resides on planet next to the star Kolob.
I thought it was fairly self-explanatory when I read it. Martha and Elizabeth were sisters, yet their trajectories took them to different places. Martha Brotherton was a disciple of John C. Bennett. Her sister was a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Can you please explain the relationship between the biblical quotation and a command for polygamy?
How do you reconcile the cessation of polygamy as part of that test of faith?
As an aside, I’ve long attempted to “deconstruct” the Book of Mormon to help explain the power Joseph had over people.
It is not an easy feat as you can imagine.
The thought that entered my head regarding the OP was a reflection of Ammon’s power over Lamoni.
- 22 Now Ammon being wise, yet harmless, he said unto Lamoni: Wilt thou hearken unto my words, if I tell thee by what power I do these things? And this is the thing that I desire of thee.
- 23 And the king answered him, and said: Yea, I will believe all thy words. And thus he was caught with guile.
If Ammon can be seen as a reflection of Joseph, his approach was to perform some miraculous event (compare the story of Ammon defending by the power of God with Joseph translating by the power of God).
Both of those stories are over the top to my mind, and so absurd as to challenge credulity. Chopping off arms and translating a non-evidential language are equally questionable.
But if you believe the absurdity, you can be caught with guile.
No one apparently wants to pay any mind to Elizabeth.

The thing is, is Elizabeth DID know...better than any of us...what was going on with Martha. Read her affidavit one more time. I posted it earlier.

You really think the fact that Elizabeth, the only one of the Brotherton family that did not leave Mormonism two months after arriving in Nauvoo, stayed helps your argument? You are likely more delusional than DCP himself.
