This is undeniably offensive in nearly every conceivable manner! Families around the globe are grieving the loss of their loved ones who perished in the collapse of the towers and the attack on the Pentagon, yet you choose to trivialize this tragedy by attempting to be funny with attempting to trick everyone with your title. It's important to remember that someone here or someone reading this board may have lost a loved one on that day.

If you truly cared about the events of September 11th, 1857, you could have initiated that discussion on any day of the year. However, you chose today, a day when many remember those who lost loved ones in the tragic events of the buildings collapsing or fires. Do you even realize that there are people still alive today who are terribly sick from helping out during and after the tragedy in New York, and they consider this day to be one of the most difficult days of the year to get through?

It seems you're attempting to impress your exmormon friends by using a title that leads everyone to believe you're discussing the towers, when that's not the case at all.

You're a disgrace!!
What an extraordinary display of moral outrage from our grumpy octogenarian. You've managed to transform a simple historical discussion into a personal attack, all because a date—a mere sequence of numbers—triggered your self-righteous indignation. It's truly a feat of mental gymnastics to connect a 19th-century massacre of over 120 people, an event described by historians as "America's largest act of domestic terrorism," to the grief of 9/11 victims and their families.

While the rest of us understand that dates can repeat, and that tragedy isn't a commodity to be hoarded by a single event, you've decided to police grief itself. Your suggestion that a historical discussion can only happen on certain days of the year is a new level of absurdity. The only disgrace here is your desperate attempt to co-opt a tragedy you don't own to shut down a conversation you don't like.

But on the bright side, I'm just glad an 85 year old can type so much crap.
To clarify, when you created this thread, they were still reading the 2983 names of the 9/11 victims at the memorial today. People are mourning, perhaps someone among us, so utilizing today for a bait and switch is not clever; it lacks depth and is entirely disrespectful! Trivializing the victims of 2001 does not do justice to the honor owed to those from 1857; you ought to feel ashamed of your actions. If you wish to discuss mountain meadows, do so with sincerity, but refrain from leveraging a national tragedy while the names of 2,983 individuals are being read aloud! That is not discourse; it is exploitation.

You're a disgrace!

 You really can't make this stuff up.

HoundDog's notion that September 11, 1857, a day of unspeakable tragedy that predates the 2001 attack by nearly 150 years, is somehow a rude interruption to the memory of 9/11 is, frankly, a hilarious new take on bizarre historical gatekeeping. And, HoundDog is just the old man to do it, apparently.

Ah, my sincerest apologies. I was unaware that a calendar date could be monopolized and declared off-limits for all other historical discourse, especially a date shared with a horrific event from 144 years prior. It seems I've committed the ultimate sin of historical timing, daring to mention a massacre that left over a hundred and twenty people dead, and generations traumatized.

Please, tell me more about this sacred, time-locked window of grief. The idea that one tragedy trivializes another is, frankly, a competition I'm not interested in joining. The victims of both events deserve to be remembered, not pitted against each other in a bizarre, zero-sum game of sorrow. The only thing being exploited here is your own outrage, which seems far more concerned with policing the discourse than with any actual remembrance.

But on the bright side, lunch at the rest home should be served soon.

For those who value dignity, humility, and respect in their lives, unlike some individuals contributing to this thread, let's clarify: when we first encountered the title of this discussion, everyone thought that it would pertain to September 11th, 2001. The deceptive tactic employed by Fibber Wang Chung, shifting the focus to 1857 while the names of the September 11th, 2001 victims are still being honored at the memorial, illustrates my point about ex-Mormons: they seem to lack humility, humanity, and the positive traits they once possessed as Mormons.

Now that all of Fibber Wang Chung's exmormon friends agree with him, it demonstrates that one of my points about exmormonism holds true: cult-like behavior can be observed within exmormonism. There's a strong likelihood that not a single board member will speak out against the insensitivity of this thread, as the prevailing mentality will prevent exmormons from doing so. They realize that if they voice their concerns about the insensitivity of Fibber Wang Chung, the whole exmormon community on this board will criticize the dissenter just like any other cult would.

No they didn’t. You are projecting what you thought and are making a broad assumption that how you think is the standard for how everyone thinks, however (your ego may need to sit down for this next bit) it isn’t.

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

 Your outrage that a date can be shared by two different tragedies, 144 years apart, is truly a masterclass in historical entitlement. I was not aware that grief could be so fiercely gate-kept, but thank you for clarifying that only one group is allowed to have a bad day on September 11th.

Furthermore, you've brilliantly pivoted from a simple chronological misunderstanding to a full-blown sociological analysis of ex-Mormons, all based on a single thread. The fact that a group of people would collectively agree that discussing a historical event is, in fact, a valid form of discussion, is apparently proof of cult-like behavior.

So, let me be clear: we're not "lacking humility" by having a discussion. We're simply not participating in your performative outrage, which seems far more interested in leveraging a tragedy for personal attacks than in any genuine remembrance. Perhaps you should find a different day to mourn, one that hasn't been so cruelly co-opted by, you know, history.

But on the bright side, I hear they are serving prunes for lunch today.

Perhaps it would be wise to let individuals grieve without trying to divert attention with a bait and switch regarding September 11th, especially when the names of 2,983 people are being read aloud. It’s clear that when you shared this thread, anyone who saw the title would immediately associate it with September 11th, 2001. Meaning, you engaged in a bait and switch tactic. Completely disrespectful, particularly during the reading of the 2983 names.

Bait and Switch Wang Chung. That's you're new nickname! :D

Could this be one of those Nephi-Laban stories in which God told the people of Cedar City to murder the men, women, and older children of the American wagon train lest the Saints become idolatrous and disobedient to the will of the Brethren? The boon of the wagon train possessions was just a sidenote and not a prime motivating factor.

God was sorely wrought. Enough so, that when the US Cavalry ran across the bones strewn in the desert, they gathered up what they could find and built a burial cairn. Later on, President Brigham Young ran across this grave cairn and ordered it destroyed, uttering the words, "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord ... and I have taken some."

Now you might read this and think, "What psychotic monsters these Mormons were", but you must remember they were on a mission from God. These mass murders and grave desecration all had heavenly sanction straight from Salt Lake City.
I heard a bizzare apologetic from Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt that he made at the fair conference. He said that prophets in the past who made wrong decisions should not be be criticized. Why? Because when they die they will recieve a flood of knowledge showing them where they got things wrong and they will be given the chance to repent. If you criticized them you are putting your own salvation in jeopardy because you are interfering with the atonement. This is one for the books.
Wow! Elder Corbitt has officially jumped the shark.

That's all the HoundDog ever does, in thread after thread after thread. Maybe he's fibbing about being exmormon.
