Thank you as well, pirate. I caught the intended “gotcha” of the post as a jab to believers as well, but not being a member or ex member I was going to stay out of it. It should be well known around these parts that people play rough.

...Besides, it’s just a message board so what difference does it make, really? Also there is a lingering doubt that it will be believed...
But of course.
...Thank you for your post, Marcus.

At the risk of upsetting everybody (not my intention), but solely for the purpose of a discussion about Mormonism, shouldn’t believing Mormons in some way admire the perpetrators of the Twin Towers attack - on the basis that they fervently believed that they were doing their God’s bidding? A bit like they admire Nephi for cutting off the drunken and inert Laban’s head? Or like they admire Abraham for being willing to murder his own child because his God commanded it? Is there a difference (other than carrying out the act on behalf of a different set of religious beliefs) in prinicpal?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

In my experience, a common Mormon response would be that it's "different" when Mormons relate experiences like that, because they "know" they are "right" when it's their experience. Others are wrong when they have similar experiences. Why? Because they aren't "Mormon." The circularity of the argument is insufferably arrogant.

I don't think it matters your role in or out of Mormonism, you are entitled to discuss what you like. I don't know enough about the mountain meadows massacre to have an opinion but I can guage from people's posts that it must have been horrific. I wasn't replying from an LDS perspective but just from a human perspective.

The news of late has been just too much. Every so often I tune out of social media and news because it becomes too much. I had a thought cross my mind the other day where I wondered, If it is the case that God flooded the earth because of how evil it was, then, was it more evil that what we are seeing now?

I fully planned to send my son to a school farther away but would be a better school and now I am wondering if I'm better to send him to the local school (which I don't think would be best for him) so I know he isn't travelling amongst other adults who might have evil intentions. He will probably still do well because he's a clever kid. I asked my husband and he didn't have these concerns. He felt our son would be fine going to the school further away. The world is just so scary and then we have all this media and people twisting things and conspiracy theories that make people feel confused about what is real and what isn't.

I thought this threat was going to be about the twin towers. Not because of the date but because of the, "crime without parallel in American history".

People won't be thinking of an event from the 1800s. But, people all over the world know about the twin towers. If you were to ask anyone I know what the worst thing to happen on 9/11 is, they'd say the twin towers and we don't even write our dates like that.

I feel like maybe the title was baiting people. Maybe putting the year in the title instead of leaving people to make assumptions and have expectations would have been helpful.

I didn't even know that there are other known historical attacks on this day.

Crime without parallel suggests that it's the worst thing to happen. But in the minds of the people, not just in America, the twin towers attack is significant. To me and in my memory (I may be wrong), it started a war. It was the beginning of my knowledge of terrorism. (I wasn't aware of the IRA terrorism at that age). It wasn't only horrific to see on the news but it instilled a fear that at any time and anywhere someone could just destroy mass lives. Things changed even here. People became afraid to travel, rules changed. Bins were removed from a lot of public places or they were changed to clear see through bins. We suddenly had to fear things being left laying around with no apparent owner.

I would say for a lot of people, the twin towers attack would be a more likely crime without parallel given that it shook the world, not just America.

In saying that though... not sure the drama is needed.
When Fibber Wang Chung crafted the title for this thread, a smile graced his face, fully aware that he was orchestrating a bait and switch. He also understood that it is completely disrespectful to engage in such an insensitive and childish act on September 11th while the names of 2,983 victims are being read aloud. However, that is of no concern to him or individuals like Fibber Marcus, as they harbor disdain for America and western civilization. His actions demonstrate this, and the actions of all those who supported him in taking such harmful actions further illustrate that exmormonism lacks compassion, humility, and humanity. At least you somewhat disagree, for now.

HoundDogger,

Your ability to look at a single post and deduce a full-blown disdain for America, Western civilization, is a level of psychic insight that should frankly be studied. Most people just see an online thread; you, however, see the entire unraveling of societal decency and a profound lack of humanity. The logical jump from "bait and switch" to "anti-American, anti-compassion, anti-everything" is just breathtaking.

On the bright side, morning polka starts soon:

As I mentioned, you were the one who had a smirk on your face when you crafted the title for this thread, fully aware that those reading it would associate it with September 11, 2001. You engaged in a bait and switch, referencing a tragic event from nearly 200 years ago that 99.99%of people are unaware of, and then had the audacity to label the 1800s incident as a "crime without parallel" on a day when 2,983 lives were lost just over two decades ago. It was in poor taste to post your thread while attendees were still reading the names of those who perished in 2001 at the memorial.

It is difficult to imagine a more un-American act than orchestrating a bait and switch on September 11th while they were reading the names of the 2,983 individuals who lost their lives in a terrorist attack. Your actions reveal not only a lack of compassion but also a deep disdain for America and the ideals and beliefs we hold dear.

I get it. You were fooled, and now you’re embarrassed and mad.
