Re: Nelson reaffirms TK smoothie doctrine that gender is not eternal
If Mormon doctrine is not hateful enough, it can be amped up to meet the wishes of current leaders. What is the use of having doctrines if the level of hatefulness can not be adjusted to happiness levels?

If you were an active and believing member, I don't see why you would feel under obligation to have more than one wife in the 'sealing' sense. As a non-believer I question why you personally spend so much time worrying about others and what they do or don't do. Doesn't your 'one wife' keep you busy enough?![]()
I'm assuming you're married...to one wife.![]()

This woman (who is likely to lose her gender in the Telestial kingdom) lays it out very nicely.
It is clear that Nelson is articulating (and therefore God & Jesus are articulating it through Nelson) that there will be a physical difference between bodies depending on which kingdom of glory you’re assigned to. It’s unarguable that Nelson (and therefore God & Jesus) see that bodies in the lesser kingdoms will be altered in a physical way that makes them less than those in the CK. Peterson needs to stop addressing what he wants this board to be saying, and instead address what Nelson actually said on behalf of God & Jesus.Mortality is a master class in learning to choose the things of greatest eternal import. Far too many people live as though this life is all there is. However, your choices today will determine three things: where you will live throughout all eternity, the kind of body with which you will be resurrected, and those with whom you will live forever. So, think celestial.
In my first message as President of the Church, I encouraged you to begin with the end in mind. This means making the celestial kingdom your eternal goal and then carefully considering where each of your decisions while here on earth will place you in the next world.
The Lord has clearly taught that only men and women who are sealed as husband and wife in the temple, and who keep their covenants, will be together throughout the eternities. He said, “All covenants, contracts, bonds, obligations, oaths, vows, performances, connections, associations, or expectations, that are not made and entered into and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise … have an end when men are dead.”
Thus, if we unwisely choose to live telestial laws now, we are choosing to be resurrected with a telestial body. We are choosing not to live with our families forever.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Trying to parse out what you are saying here.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 9:19 pmI don’t find it surprising that there has been additional light and knowledge made available to this ‘generation’. It has always been so throughout Judaeo-Christian history hasn’t it?
The question I suppose that I would ask is how many of us want to ‘procreate’ and be directly responsible in some form, or fashion, for ‘eternal increase’? And more importantly, how many of us are confident that God would be able to trust us to not ‘mess things up?’.
I think that MANY of us, even those in the church living their covenants made with God, question whether or now we will ever be worthy or capable of taking on such a HUGE responsibility. The question might be asked…is there a path that leads in that direction? If so, what is it? Latter-day Saints do have an answer to that question.
I’m not sure that any other religious institution that I’m aware of has given a stable/firm answer on this.

Do you mean there are no other religious institutions in which eternally procreating in some sort of heaven is the end state?
I mean, that answer is probably no, but I haven’t studied every religion out there.
But the way you phrased this also assumes that other religious institutions are asking the question of how to get to and end state of eternal procreation.
So in that case, the answer is no one else (to my knowledge) is even asking that question.
Are you claiming this uniqueness is a sign of its truth?

It does give ‘purpose’ in the afterlife more meaning than simply singing praises to God and strumming harps. The idea of having/earning the opportunity to be co-creators with God? Yeah, I would imagine that isn’t a question that is entertained by other religions.Limnor wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 1:24 amTrying to parse out what you are saying here.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 9:19 pm

But one might consider that if we are coeternal (big if, right?) with God that He’s got something else up His sleeve for us. It may not be for everyone, but may be an option.
Is that so far out there? (pun intended) That God would want us to have some portion of what He has and what He has experienced? Of course there are other options. Harps. Singing praises.
Or annihilation. My gut tells me there is more to the purpose of the universe and our creation than poofing out though.

Let me see if I understand your thinking. It sounds like you would rather “be a god” than “worship a God,” with the ultimate requirement of marrying multiple women as the test.
I can see where a man might be tempted to want to believe this is all true, led along by his own desires.
Not so great for women though.

What I’m saying is that if there is an afterlife I think there is much more to it than what many people/religionists have conceptualized. Being co-creators with God and receiving all that He has?Limnor wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 12:14 pmLet me see if I understand your thinking. That’s a bit more than harps and praises, wouldn’t you say? Now what that might ACTUALLY look like, I think we know very little. But enough to make it something worth looking forward to.
How the relationships actually work and the family dynamics play out…I would expect that if God is a God of love we don’t have much to worry about.
But we do worry, right? Even to the point of…”I don’t believe it.” Mormonism provides a template for eternal progression and expressive creativeness. For helping and loving. While at the same time recognizing and praising God for all that He has provided for us along the way.
