You’ve set off my nonsense detector and choosing to respond. Kimmel did not lie. You and the MAGA right are acting in utter bad faith. The truth: before Charlie Kirk’s blood had cooled on the ground, MAGA opinion leaders and politicians did exactly as Kimmel described: frantically, desperately accused all kinds of people of murdering Kirk based on no evidence. They all knew that the most recent political assassination was a radicalized Trumper who impersonated a police officer and slaughtered three Democratic legislators. And he had a long hit list of democrats he planned to get to. So, what Kimmel said was absolutely true: the right was desperate to pin the murder on anything but one of them. And the government assisted in that effort by leaking the false claim that the bullet etchings symbolized “trans ideology.”

Kimmel did not say what you are pretending he said. He did not say that the murderer was MAGA. That’s a lie and a malicious one.

This is use of the government power to punish speech. Show me any example from the past where the FCC threatened local stations or a network with retaliation if they didn’t fire someone for their speech. It’s, as we say, arbitrary and capricious.

The head of the FCC threatened a corporation that is planning a merger with fines and regulatory action based on a “distortion of news.” News?? Jimmy Kimmel doing a stand up routine??? Trump had already targeted Kimmel for firing, and has even identified his next two targets. This was the government using its power to punish speech because Trump has a thin skin and can’t tolerate being the subject of a joke.

Watching self-described conservatives defend government suppression of political speech will never fail to blow my mind.

Thank you for that clarification, Res Ipsa. I didn't see that episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, but your clarification of what he actually said fits better with the impression I already had of him than with Trump and the far right's dishonest attempts to demonize him and distort what he actually said. It is blazingly clear to me is that they hate him mainly because they know they can't credibly refute what Kimmel actually said about Trump and they can't stand being laughed at.

I think the low bar is still set with President Trump appointing a registered sex offender, who pled guilty to raping a kid, to be part of a government task force that works with kids. The appointment of a guy who was prosecuted for chemically castrating kids without a medical license and without parental consent in order to "cure" autism, to oversee a largescale government study on autism is probably neck-in-neck as far as lows go.

Jumping to scapegoat trans people (the murder rate for whom doubled under Trump's last administration), and Trump's bizarre reaction when asked about Kirk's tragic murder -- while certainly not high points -- definitely aren't new lows.

Res lied. You, ceeboo, are not acting in bad faith. The suggestion diminishes Res's argument to about nothing. That said, there is a lawyer lie line that is not the same as the common, or parenting, lie line. There is a lawyer lie line that is trained. "My client is innocent" means nothing more than the lawyer and this client have a financial contract, for example.

This hyperventilating over government power use and speech is much ado about nothing. Notice, it was a threat to the first amendment when this started. That got walked back, for obvious reasons. There is no threat to the 1st. Now it is a threat or punishment to speech, which will get walked back. Soon we will be back to Trump is a dick, which he is not. He is a POS.

Okay. So would you say Trump is a PPOS or a POSS? At least we are not tangled in a twisted mess about the first amendment and we can all agree that Trump is a POS and Kimmell, bless his heart, may have lost his job because of a POS. Even though, we know it was the affiliate things that wanted him out.
