Very likely faster than you are willing to believe, and probably faster than I have the competence to predict, unless the whole world, especially including the USA, takes the situation seriously and accelerates the necessary actions to mitigate the danger and transition to greener and more renewable energy technologies.

And there is the horse crap. Thank you.canpakes wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 4:41 pmWe’re already on the way there in critical areas. The state has to keep throwing gobs of money at fixing the issues from sea level rise.
Sounds pretty expensive. Much more expensive than pretending climate change can’t happen.TL;DR - Rising Seas and Flooding in Miami
- Sea-level rise: +5 in since 1996; projected +10–17 in by 2040 and up to 54 in by 2070.
- Sunny-day flooding: regular high tides now flood Miami Beach streets; roads being elevated to 3.7 ft above datum.
- Tourism risk: 67,000 city assets exposed, from beaches to hotels to cruise terminals.
- Insurance crisis: premiums up 322 % in one year; flood-prone properties losing billions in value.

- Adaptation efforts: $400 M Miami Forever Bond, pumps, seawalls, and living shorelines underway.
Sea level up 5 inches in 29 years. Accelerates to 1 inch per year in 2040 - 2070. Mmmmmmmkay.
This ignores land sinking because deltas, rivers and swamps are now “contained”. See NOLA.

Thanks, canpakes, for posting that documented evidence. The importance of monitoring and understanding the increasingly urgent situation and accelerating our efforts to mitigate it can hardly be overemphasized! The longer Trump continues to deny the problem and prevents our nation's cooperating with the world in dealing with this problem, the more difficult and more expensive it will be to mitigate the problem.canpakes wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 4:41 pmWe’re already on the way there in critical areas. You should definitely call up Florida, and tell folks there that the state is a contained delta, and that they’re idiots for spending hundreds of millions of dollars to fix problems that they are only imagining are happening.
After convincing them, you can even put your money where your mouth is by purchasing a portfolio of properties in these areas that are being besmirched by imaginary woke DEI trans climate change threats. Build something fancy on them, and ask your insurer for a discount. I’m sure that they’ll be very accommodating.

Nah. If you have an imaginary claim you wish to make, make it. Do tell though. What, in the next 15 years, will cause sea level rise to accelerate 5x?

Should probably go and tell all those insurance companies that stopped selling homeowner's insurance they're leaving a ton of money on the table too.canpakes wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 6:20 pmYou should definitely call up Florida, and tell folks there that the state is a contained delta, and that they’re idiots for spending hundreds of millions of dollars to fix problems that they are only imagining are happening.

But they are not as far away as you seem to think. Renewable energy outpaces coal for electricity generation in historic first, report saysWhiskey wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 5:58 pmAccepted. Solar and wind aren’t there yet.Gunnar wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 5:44 pm

Unfortunately, though, Trump is stupidly trying to halt that transition, which will not only seriously undermine US economic competitiveness vs the rest of the world also but harm the entire planet! For the first time, renewable energy has overtaken coal as the primary source of electricity around the world, a new report says, indicating a shift in the global reliance on environmentally harmful fossil fuels.
Renewable energy contributed 34.3% of all global electricity generated in the first half of 2025, while coal fell to 33.1%, the energy think tank Ember found. Renewable energies include sources like solar, wind and hydro, as opposed to fossil fuels like coal and natural gas.
Populous developing countries like China and India led the charge in adding more renewable energies, Ember reports. Meanwhile, Western societies including the European Union and the United States met some of their increased electricity demand through the use of fossil fuels during this period.

While the world — including the United States — is making significant gains in making energy cleaner, increased demand leaves renewables struggling to meet consumer needs, said Daniel Cohan, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Rice University.
The tech race to integrate artificial intelligence into daily life is in part to blame.
"This has really been an inflection point for the United States in that power demand in the U.S. had flatlined for a couple decades, and with the growth of data centers, and AI and crypto, and with other growth from industries and air conditioning, and so on, we're starting to see electricity demand grow 3% per year, rather than be flat or 1%," Cohan said.
Accelerate energy innovation
The International Energy Agency recently reported more money will be invested in clean energy in 2025 than ever before—a record $2.2 trillion. It’s clearer than ever that the Clean Industrial Revolution is here. I can’t wait to see what this level of investment unlocks in the years ahead.
I've been working on energy innovation since 2008, because I believe it will help make lives better around the world. Developing new sources of clean energy allows us to both improve human welfare today and protect the planet for future generations. It powers economies, and it’s the only way we’ll meaningfully reduce emissions.
When everyone in the world has access to affordable, reliable, and abundant clean energy, the world will be healthier and more prosperous. Getting to that point will be difficult, but I’m optimistic we can get there.
Through Breakthrough Energy, I fund work on innovations that will help us make that transformation. Meeting the world’s climate and energy goals requires unprecedented investment from the private sector to drive innovation. It demands extraordinary collaboration across all sectors to get clean energy ideas out of the lab and into the market affordably and at scale. This work has been Breakthrough Energy's mission from day one.
I also fund work through the Gates Foundation to help people in the world’s poorest countries thrive in a time when the twin threats of poverty and disease are exacerbated by rising temperatures. The best way to help people adapt to climate change is to make sure they’re healthy and prosperous. Our partners are helping to improve baseline health, as well as working on things like new varieties of crops and livestock that can flourish in a warmer world.
