I had a work colleague years ago who was Ba’hai.

His list of readings for me to understand the Ba’hai faith included:

The Báb
- Persian Bayán
- Arabic Bayán
- Selections from the Writings of the Báb
- The Seven Proofs (Dalá’il-i-Sab‘ih)
- Asmá’ (Commentary on the Súrah of Joseph)

Bahá’u’lláh
- Kitáb-i-Aqdas (The Most Holy Book)
- Kitab-i-Íqán (The Book of Certitude)
- The Hidden Words
- The Seven Valleys
- The Four Valleys
- Tablets of Bahá’u’lláh Revealed After the Kitáb-i-Aqdas
- Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh
- Epistle to the Son of the Wolf

‘Abdu’l-Bahá
- Some Answered Questions
- The Secret of Divine Civilization
- Tablets of the Divine Plan
- Paris Talks
- Promulgation of Universal Peace
- Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Shoghi Effendi
- God Passes By
- The World Order of Bahá’u’lláh
- The Advent of Divine Justice
- Citadel of Faith
- Messages to America

Universal House of Justice
- Messages from the Universal House of Justice (various compilations)

I never finished them. They were very dense and I eventually gave up.

But, in keeping with the logic presented, everyone should read every scrap before determining if Bahá’u’lláh was a prophet.
limnor, this is a good way of pointing out the impossibility of the idea of in depth understanding of many religious possibilities. Not only is there the study but there would need to be honest participation to understand well. For Bahia would you understand with out the fast and daily prayers? No MG is being set an impossible task. That task does suggest wisdom in recognizing limits to your own understanding. People can only try to do the best with what they and are able to learn.

By the way having for a spell long ago studied Bahia I note that is quite a large library, I bet few Bahias have read all of
that. I read some of those.

No. He hasn’t been set a task at all. He made a claim that he has studied other religions before concluding Mormonism was the true one. He is being asked to explain what research he did, what depth, what religions.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I won't claim that I have looked at every other bubble exhaustively. But I have looked wide and far in some depth.
Really? How interesting! What non Christian religion have you looked at the deepest and how did you do it?
Here you go huckelberry. For reference. Does it sound like MG looked “wide and far and in some depth” (his claim)?

Hmm...I think I've gone into a bit of verbosity on this just recently. Doesn't matter. Some folks use the fact/truth that we can't possibly investigate through learning and experience ALL faiths that it's then just all "bubbles".

Period. End of story.

Questions, I think MG Probably has looked far enough to give him some comfort. Little chance he has looked far enough that you should accept him as expert witness. The point I was thinking of is nobody can be an expert on the variety of religious experience though like William James one might know enough to make some interesting observations.

Actually it is obvious enough that LDS offers some special things . People evaluate these. Most people have rejected the LDS contribution on the basis of judging it not comparing it to every other religion.MG sees the special and sees it as good. I see a variety of special some good some not so much.

There is undeniable (in my opinion) good to be had for some people from religion. That includes Mormonism.

I know people who appeared to be on a steep and slippery slope to losing everything good, and perhaps even their lives, who were turned around by becoming a member of a religious community. In one case it was someone who became and still is a faithful Mormon.

Ironically the person whose example he was following has concluded that the Mormon church is not "true" - at least, not in the sense that they had previously sincerely testified that it was. A further irony is that this person, though not born Mormon, still feels that they are almost as Mormon as they ever were, except that they no longer believe in the religion.

This is essentially what I am saying, Huck. I’m suggesting application of the same criteria across the board.

Who said anything about expecting MG to be an expert witness? MG said he had investigated other religions ”wide and deep”. So multiple other religions and each of them in depth. That was what he stated as a fact. Now the reality comes out that he hasn’t investigated wide and deep. So what does that make his initial assertion that I helpfully quoted for you?
