You do NOT want a death penalty case.
I choose no case at all. On an ethics and quality of life basis, I see life without parole as the worst option.

Nick Reiner waived his right to a speedy arraignment in court hearing today. It's been pushed out to Jan 7, 2026 now.

Folks if you haven't followed a complicated high profile trial like this I just want to say the trial will not likely be held for another year if not longer.

Exactly! This is the more important consideration, I think.
Seems it may be easier to mount an appeal from death row than from wherever the LWP folks are.

What makes me think it? Mandatory appeals of the verdict and mandatory counsel that exists for capital cases. Other than that, I am like Ruth. Don't know crap about “F”.

NO. A death penalty case is near impossible to win. It typically requires a unanimous decision on the part of the jury.

ETA: You got my attention with this thread to the point that I've taken you off ignore. Thanks a lot, buster.

Comment on the site's auto-correct function. Apparently whenever anyone types in the verb "trumps" the auto-correct function insists on correcting it to "Trump's". This is unnecessary overkill, don't you think?
But, Trump invented the word, just like the word, ‘groceries’.

Hang on. We are talking about different things.

For a California case, there is no death penatly. I think that is off the table. I was responding generally and not to the Reiner case. That said, I think LWoP is a harsher penalty. And this neck-slicing POS needs the harshest of harsh.

You are welcome. Let the adventures continue.

I can see why some would choose death rather than life without parole, if they perceived there was no chance of ever being exonerated, but is it unreasonable for a falsely incarcerated person to choose life without parole rather than death in the hope that exonerating evidence can be found while they are still alive?
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Do you see any merit in allowing someone given LWOP (In other words sentence is handed down) the ability to choose the death penalty instead?

Are you asking me? If you are — HELL NO!!!!! Take the death penatly and extend the appeals process with more options for counsel, money from bleeding hearts, media and access to the supreme courts.
