The crowning achievement of his life was being on a first name basis with a young apologist named Dan.
I sometimes wonder as these leaders get older and approaching death if doubt creeps in especially when healing blessings repeatedly fail. Or an overall doubt as they wonder if Jesus isn't who they think he is and they might have some explaining to do.
I’m sure it’s always lurking in the back of their minds. But they probably equally feel they won the lottery being Mormon royalty.

I wonder what stripe of executive Oaks will tap to fill Holland's Q12 slot.

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

If Oaks, who clerked for the U.S. Supreme Court, has learned anything about lifetime appointments, he'd pack the 12 with new apostles in their 40s but think like Oaks. That way, Oaks' stamp would be on the church for many decades to come.

Fibber,

He was none of those things. Holland was merely a collection of prejudices held together by a short fuse and a loose relationship with the truth.

When news of a significant death appears on a board like this, it's to be expected, I think, that different posters will have different reactions, and different memories of what makes the deceased stand out in their mind. May it always be so.

I’d wager that the doubt creeps in well before their passing, but that they’re choosing for their legacy to be that they helped the faithful remain faithful regardless.
