Merry Christmas to the MDB Children!

Post by Jersey Girl »

We here at the Jersey Homestead would like to wish you and yours the Merriest Christmas ever! And we've got a gift for you to share with your babies and grandbabies, and even just for yourself! I give you the NORAD Santa Tracker! I stay up every Christmas Eve to make sure the Big Guy is about to come to our area. Not even close to joking.

Watch your tracker then get out there and LOOK UP! I double dog dare you! ;)

Ban Whiskey permanently if that's the only way.

I'm here to play Scrooge, because what would the season be without him?

I'm damned sick of Christmas. It's been a few years coming, but this year more than ever, I've realized that I just don't give a damn about Christmas any more, and in fact, it's more pain-in-the-ass than joyous.

Here's the thing: it's a religious holiday. You take the nonsense about Jesus out of the equation and all you're left with is Santa, reindeer, elves and Frosty, a.k.a. kid's stuff. When my daughter was young, that stuff was fun and in many ways, worthwhile. Now that she's grown, wtf are we doing?

Plus, in my advanced years, I've turned into a mild minimalist, and I don't want more useless crap in my house that people bought me because they felt the idiotic cultural obligation to check someone off their list. I've lost count now of the number of times I've told people, "I don't need anything. If you have to give me something, make it a consumable, like a bottle of scotch."

Don't get me wrong. I still value the time with loved ones and the time to reflect at year end. I've just come 'round to the realization that this is a kid's holiday, it comes with a lot of baggage and obligation, and I'd be fine to never mention or be beholden to Christmas ever again.

I guess I finally understand the phrase, "Bah... humbug!"
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense. It's also the favored cover for hypocrites.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.
