Temples dotting/covering the earth.

Post by MG 2.0 »

Here are some excellent graphics showing LDS temples around the world. When I served my mission there were 18 temples if I remember correctly. Sometimes we might hear critics talk about the money grubbing leaders of the church. As if their mission were to enrich the church and/or themselves. As one looks at all these temples and their locations it might not be too difficult to imagine the amount of resources that go into temple operations throughout the world. This is something that couldn't have been considered at any other time in earth's history.

Scroll to bottom link where it says:

See 6 maps showing locations around the world of the Church’s 383 temples.

Those of us that are getting a little older, believers or not, who were around decades ago can't help be be amazed, at least to some degree, at the rolling forth of the work of building temples. Sure, you can go hither and thither on why the church invests so much of its resources in building Houses of the Lord, but nonetheless, it's quite the thing when you take the time to consider it.

Whatever one thinks, it is an interesting fact that so many people in so many places in the world now have the opportunity...from their perspective...to make and keep covenants of the Lord made in His Holy House.

Any other church 'rolling forth' its sacred edifices (other than meeting houses) like this?

Some would say that the Lord (God) is speedily moving forth His work and that no unhallowed hand can stop it.

If you like looking at maps, you'll enjoy these. :)

Before someone else says it, yes, it is obvious by studying the key on each map that some temples are operating, some are in planning stages, and some have been announced. Still, imagine the amount of money that has to be set aside to carry forth the work of getting these temples in place and then maintaining them.

Whatever one thinks, it is rather obvious that the church thinks/believes that temples are of paramount importance.

the church believes the members believe that temples are important and cost a lot of money, and so they must build them as a "cover" to satisfy the tithe payers.

If number of buildings were a measure of truth, we’d all be worshipping the Starbucks mermaid.

It does seem like the church views the number of temples as representative of the success of the church.

I think that’s flawed, to say the least.

There's reason to think that not even all of the members that the LDS church claims believe that Mormon god exists. It's an interesting fact that likely even fewer think that what goes on in these great and spacious buildings has anything whatsoever to do with the "work" of said god.

If we want to talk about perspective, almost 100% of the rest of the world neither know nor care about it.

Every day, thousands of Mormons who could be doing good and useful things in their communities are shut up in these buildings "working" on behalf of (literally) "John or Jane, who is dead", performing activities that, even according to some faithful Mormons, could well be accomplished during the anticipated "millennium".

A lot of ostentatious displays of wealth, and performative religion - it's quite the thing when you take the time to consider it.

The Catholic Church already has over 3,000 Cathedrals. So from that perspective, the SLC LDS Church is trying to play catch up from a long long long way behind.

Given that you are lauding the notion of SLC LDS Temples, and covenants, will you be keeping those covenants this year? Or continuing to live by convenience? Because not practicing what you preach is not a great show of character, especially for a Mormon.

Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Truthfully? I think the temples are representative of God's love for all of His children. They also represent the love His children have for Him as they desire to make and keep promises to obey commandments and to seek after the joy that is experienced through living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The fact that these maps show so many temples now spread across the earth is a manifestation of God's love more than anything else.

But to each his own. Critics, of course, will look at the breadth and depth of temple building with different eyes.

The work rolls on and temples continue to be built to bless the lives of God's children throughout the world.

My initial point in the OP is that it takes a LOT of money to do that. The church is not hoarding its wealth as much as it is using those resources to bless the lives of the Latter-Day Saints and those that have passed on without receiving the ordinances of the Gospel.

How hardly are those houses the houses of God's love. They are houses of horror where cultish rites based on fear and punishment are made. The temples are Satanic in nature. They will one day be torn down.

Enough of the bloody cult rituals of slitting the throat of Isaac in order to obey a monster-god called Jehovah or nailing a man-teacher on a cross in order to get forgiveness. The God of the Bible is a bloody demon and Mormons worship it while adherents are taught to slit their throats in the face of what they think is virtue.

You are evil, MG. I don't care what you say or who on this board defends you. You're bloody evil. You are trolling again.
