Joseph publicly denied practicing polygamy while privately practicing it. He authorized secrecy by invoking God, threatened spiritual consequences for disclosure, and allowed others to bear false public testimony on his behalf. Those are documented actions, not metaphors.
I note that MG failed to respond to this post, but responded to later posts. Perhaps he missed it?

I'm sure he didn't miss it. MG approves of holy men abusing women and girls because that is what Joseph Smith did.

Follow the prophet!

I can imagine MG with a 14 year old girl. I can. I really can!

I think at this point you will need to explain in some detail what you’re referring to. I’ve been transparent. As it is, I’m typically the one on the hot seat and, at least from where I sit, often misinterpreted and/or misrepresented.

To the point that there are some folks that have a track record which necessarily demands I don’t interact with them. It’s a fool’s errand to reason with them. From my perspective you are ‘borderline-ish’ in that you are, as a matter of fact, calling out what you believe to be “absurdities” without any evidence that your so-called conclusions are true.

You are operating behind a firewall of critical support in that you don’t believe in the core messages of the Restoration. You are free to criticize that which you don’t believe or do not fully understand and are able to be called “safe!” to each base you run to.

You are not called out on absurdities because, for one, we/I actually know very little about your own beliefs. You’re safe. I, for one, have not challenged you to explain any of your theological views. Not that I really know much about what they are…

Just sayin'’. ;)

Regards,
MG
I’m not asking you to account for my beliefs, my support system, or how “safe” I am on the board. I’m asking about Joseph’s actions, and I’ll be specific since you’ve asked.

Joseph publicly denied practicing polygamy while privately practicing it. He authorized secrecy by invoking God, threatened spiritual consequences for disclosure, and allowed others to bear false public testimony on his behalf. Those are documented actions, not metaphors. Again, the question isn’t whether Joseph believed he was commanded by God—it’s why he told people things he knew were false and invoked God to enforce that deception.

Calling that an “absurdity” isn’t a value judgment, it’s a description of the contradiction between public denial and private practice.

If you think that contradiction is being misrepresented, I’m open to correction—but it needs to address those actions directly, not my presumed motives or lack of vulnerability. It’s a discussion board about Mormonism, not limnorism.
On the thread called “God writes straight using crooked lines” I said this:

Even if Joseph believed that he had been commanded of God to practice the law of plural marriage, both for time and for eternity, there would have been the natural fears he would have experienced under the pressures that resulted from the practice.

No one is saying that he implemented and carried out the command perfectly.

Fear is a powerful motivator.

Here are some excellent graphics showing LDS temples around the world.

When I see a picture of an LDS temple there are all kinds of thoughts that go through my head. Here are a few:
  • You can't go into the temple if you have a masturbation problem. :o
  • You must give 10% of your income to the Church even if you don't have enough for groceries. :(
  • You must keep your mouth shut and say nothing except, "Yes." :|
  • You have to put up with stinky breath from old men while standing in a cramped new name booth.

The temple? Just say, "Hell no!"

MG, your temples suck!

I trust you would have done a better job if you were filling Joseph's shoes?

Would you go as low as 13 years old?

12?

I believe you would.

Now that I think about it, I think I actually said this to Limnor. If I'm not mistaken, he didn't bring up what I'd already said to him over in the other thread. No harm, no foul, except for the 'bugging factor' by another poster. The one who constantly asks questions but in the past has answered VERY few.

You hypocrite. You're not a Christian. You're evil, MG.

Q. King Pharaoh's name in Facsimile No. 3?

Q. Why did Joseph Smith cut off the snout and headcloth of Anubis that lies on every temple altar?

Answer those questions, you Goddamn coward. Your Church is an abomination.

Oh Marcus! You should be ashamed of yourself!

Shut the hell up, MG. Unless you know the king's name.

I know. Mentalgymnast literally just followed up malkie's post with even more demonstrations of his sexism. And calling sexism "old-fashioned" is no excuse.
I think he was oblivious to the sexism, but I doubt that anyone else missed it. Sexism and paternalism - great combo.

Accusations of “sexism” reflects others’ ideological lens more than my actual intent. As is par for the course certain critics are predisposed to see me in the worst possible light rather than engaging directly with my arguments. We end up with sidetracks (as we see here), strawmen, flak throwing, and the like.

Used to it!

What arguments? You mean no unhallowed hand can stop the work from going forth as you stated in your opening post? What other argument do you refer to? Wipe your nose you sniveling old man. It's past your bedtime.

AI will destroy your church.

Mormonism is doomed.

I know it.

I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ!

Accusations of “sexism” reflects others’ ideological lens more than my actual intent...
Recognizing the intent of a mentalgymnast is irrelevant. Whether he intended it or not, his comments were sexist.
... As is par for the course certain critics are predisposed to see me in the worst possible light rather than engaging directly with my arguments...
Wrong again. Mentalgymnast's arguments were engaged with directly, AND his sexism was pointed out.
...We end up with sidetracks (as we see here), strawmen, flak throwing, and the like...
Third strike. Mentalgymnast's sexism has been addressed, and mentalgymnast's arguments have been addressed. His faux-victimization is akin to egregious flopping in basketball. Everyone sees it.
...Used to it! ...
Here's where mentalgymnast gives himself away. If he's used to people noticing his sexism, why hasn't he learned to not do it? We can add introducing sexism to the list of behaviors he knows are inappropriate but that he uses to distract and disrupt, along with a) breaking the AI rule multiple times, b) breaking the link-and-run rule multiple times, c)stereotyping people different than himself multiple times, d) passive-aggressive insults that he pretends he didn't mean multiple times, and e) etc., etc., etc. Multiple times.

Trolls use mental gymnastics, and mental gymnasts troll.
