Anyway, we all know that an attack on one NATO member is considered to be an attack on all of them and they're all obligated to come to the attack-ee's aid. Up until now everyone has taken for granted that it's referring to the old Soviet Union, but riddle me this: What if a NATO member is attacked by another NATO member? What happens then?

Putin has been playing Trump like a fiddle from the beginning at least from the start of his first intention to run for President. It's a national embarrassment what a sucker he is for flattery, especially from Tyrants and would-be tyrants that Trump envies and admires and wishes to emulate. What's even more embarrassing is how many Americans he successfully deluded into voting for him. Like it or not, this has vastly reduced most of the rest of the world's estimation of Americans' intelligence and awareness of world affairs. Hopefully enough Americans will become aware enough of his incompetence and stupidity by the midterm elections to vote out his own crooked administration.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 12:39 amPutin playing Trump like a freaking fiddle. Trump is obviously becoming aware of how low his poll ratings are now and how rapidly they are shrinking. There isn't a doubt in my mind that he will try to prevent the election from even happening. Pray that he doesn't succeed in that!

Re: Greenland Watch 2026: America First!
Trump has just handed Putin the prize he’s always wanted
Contrast this with what Joe Biden accomplished during his 4 years! He made NATO bigger and stronger that it had ever been by adding more nations to the treaty! Trump has virtually dismantled that accomplishment in less than 2 years. Of all Biden's laudable accomplishments during his term that Trump has dismantled or tried to, this is arguably the most damaging and stupidest (not to mention, most treasonous) thing Trump has done yet!
Anyone who is not aware of this shameful travesty just hasn't been paying attention. The Soviet Union spent more than 40 years trying to achieve what has just been handed to Vladimir Putin on a plate. Throughout the Cold War, the Kremlin’s primary objective was to split the Atlantic Alliance (Nato) by turning America and Europe against one another.
Every crisis over the security of West Berlin, from the Soviet ultimatum for the West to leave the city in 1958 to the building of the Wall in 1961, was designed to open cracks in Nato. “To make the West scream, I squeeze on Berlin,” as Nikita Khrushchev, then Soviet leader, put it in 1959.
His successor, Leonid Brezhnev, deployed a new generation of nuclear missiles – the SS20s – in the satellite states of central Europe precisely to divide the West over how to respond.
All of those efforts failed. America and Europe knew exactly what the Soviets were up to and, though they differed and argued, the allies never allowed the Kremlin the satisfaction of watching them break apart.
Today, thanks to Donald Trump, Putin can revel in that spectacle. He has spent 25 years pursuing the old Soviet policy of trying to split the West. Time and again, he has denounced Nato for supposedly trying to “encircle” or “terrorise” Russia, as if the very existence of the Atlantic Alliance posed a threat to world peace, and as though the sight of sovereign countries choosing to join its ranks somehow justified his aggression.
Now, suddenly, the fissure Putin has always yearned for is opening before his eyes.
For this reason alone, Trump surely deserves not only to be impeached, but tried, convicted and spend the rest of his life in prison for treason!Faced with looming American tariffs and constant threats, the EU is preparing to retaliate by invoking its “anti-coercion instrument” to impose €93bn (£80.6bn) of levies on US exports. This extraordinary measure, which has never been used before, is set to be deployed not against China or any other adversary, but against the superpower that has guaranteed Europe’s security for almost 80 years.
Sir Keir Starmer has so far declined to impose additional British tariffs on US exports, but the EU’s promised retribution shows the two sides are now doing their best to damage one another.
Putin can only sit back and enjoy the sight. And even if this quarrel is eventually resolved by some form of settlement between America and Europe over the future of Greenland – and, for all the sound and fury, that remains the most likely outcome – who will ever trust the United States to honour its Nato obligation to defend its European allies?
As the Prime Minister said in Downing Street on Monday: “Alliances endure because they are built on respect and partnership, not pressure. The use of tariffs against allies is completely wrong.”
By heaping pressure on his friends – openly and boisterously – Trump has fundamentally undermined the Atlantic Alliance. Soviet leaders always knew that if they invaded any Nato ally, they would find themselves at war with America, a war they could not win. Peace itself depended on that belief. Why should Putin believe it now?
Contrast this with what Joe Biden accomplished during his 4 years! He made NATO bigger and stronger that it had ever been by adding more nations to the treaty! Trump has virtually dismantled that accomplishment in less than 2 years. Of all Biden's laudable accomplishments during his term that Trump has dismantled or tried to, this is arguably the most damaging and stupidest (not to mention, most treasonous) thing Trump has done yet!

When you think Trump cannot get any more childish, here is the latest from the from WSJ on the deranged bully.

I know it’s fruitless to ask you conservatives to at least read the wiki entry, but there it is, the link, if you can stand the thought of doing something a Librul is asking you to do.

If you don't understand what's behind the behaviors psychologically, you won't fully understand what you're seeing take place or be in a position to possibly predict the next move based on what motivates the players. In the case of Trump and let's short list it and just say, JD Vance, Stephen Miller...the motivations are rooted in childhood. I double dog guarantee it.

Trump says 'deal' over Greenland is 'really fantastic for the USA'
Video posted online by the Danish state broadcaster DR shows more of what Donald Trump told reporters about the “deal” over Greenland he says he made with the Nato secretary general, Mark Rutte, who has no say over the sovereignty of the Danish territory. His vague remarks suggested that the proposed agreement might be closer to the “concepts of a plan” for a comprehensive US healthcare policy he promised in the 2024 campaign than a settled deal.
“It’s a deal that people jumped at, uh, really fantastic for the USA; gets everything we wanted, including especially real national security, and international security,” Trump said.
Asked “how so?”, the US president said: “Well, the deal is going to be put out pretty soon, and we will see. It’s right now a little bit in progress, but pretty far along. It gets us everything that we needed to get.”
Giving a sense of the confusion at the heart of the situation, Trump went on to say that Rutte “was representing the other side, which is really us too, because we’re you know a very important member of Nato … and it’s really nice, I mean it’s a deal that everybody’s very happy with.”
Pressed to say if the agreement gave the US ownership of Greenland, as he has demanded, Trump paused for a while before saying: “Um … it’s a long-term deal. It’’s the ultimate long-term deal.”
I don't think he was expecting that the European attitude would be, basically "OK. We shall stick with the 'no land grabs from allies' principle. If that means the end of the transatlantic alliance, we shall have to manage without it."2m ago

Nato statement says Trump and Rutte discussed 'collective security' in Arctic, with no mention of US acquiring Greenland
There are signs of a diplomatic effort to frame Donald Trump’s apparent retreat from his demand for the US to own Greenland as a win-win for everybody, likely to avoid angering the volatile US president.
That can be seen in the wording of a statement from a Nato spokesperson, Allison Hart, to the US broadcaster MSNOW, which was framed as a comment “following President Trump’s announcement of a ‘concept of a deal’ related to Greenland”.
The Nato statement, however, did not confirm that any deal or concept of a deal had been agreed. Instead, the statement said that Nato’s secretary-general, Mark Rutte, had “a very productive meeting” with Trump “during which they discussed the critical significance of security in the Arctic region to all Allies, including the United States.”
Those discussion, the statement added, focused on “collective security” of the Nato allies. “Negotiations between Denmark, Greenland and the United States will go forward aimed at ensuring that Russia and China never gain a foothold – economically or militarily – in Greenland.”
