Re: Call ICE what it is: State Sponsored Terrorism
I don’t know that brainwashing is the right term, but right-wing media, politicians, and thought leaders have engaged in a mass propaganda campaign to persuade ordinaries Americans that:
Next is identification of a scapegoat responsible for the arrived people’s loss of status or power. Hitler used Jews. Trump uses immigrants and trans folks. But he also taps into the great replacement conspiracy theory, which makes liberals into the enemy. The scapegoat it’s important. Look how fast the regime pivoted from immigrants in general to Somalis based on a sloppy and provocative video presentation by a right wing provocateur. Even though ICE has literally nothing to do with investigating and prosecuting benefits fraud, fraud by some Somalis became the pretext for the brutal occupation of Minneapolis and now Maine. The smaller the scapegoat group, the less resistance the regime expects there to be. Thus the poem: First they came for the X.
Finally, the movement needs a leader with a cult of personality. The leader promises to restore the aggrieved to their rightful place, gives them permission to hate their enemies, and fans the flame of grievance to keep them united in their cause. That’s when the individual subsumes their identity into the groups identity. The leader — the “Daddy” — gives the members permission to engage in horrific behavior that they would not engage in apart from the group.
So, I suppose one could identify personality characteristics that make one more or less susceptible to the sense of grievance that leads folks to join authoritarian movements. But I think that the range of personalities is broader than we may like to think. These movements come from both the left and the right. They sweep in a broad range of people.
I think we are susceptible to the notion that we aren’t getting what we deserve and that someone has stolen power or status that we deserve. It’s a pretty seductive notion. We get to blame our dissatisfaction with life on someone other than ourselves and we are able to rationalize ugly behavior as a means of reclaiming what we deserve. That’s what leads me to be skeptical about the ability to form a psychological profile of people sucked into authoritarian mass movements.
- Black and brown people, both citizens and immigrants have economically and politically displaced white people from their rightful place in American society;
- Democrats/ the left have orchestrated this lots of white Americans’ birthright in a conspiracy (including Jews) to destroy America;
- The left wants to destroy these real Americans. They hate America and real Americans. This is an existential battle — the left is the enemy and must be destroyed;
- Only Donald Trump can won this war against this conspiracy against America and real Americans.

“The nazification of the masses did not begin with marching columns and burning books. It began with the daily repetition of certain words.” - Victor Klemperer, The Language of the Third Reich
“Words can be like tiny doses of arsenic: they are swallowed unnoticed, they seem to have no effect, and then after a while the toxic reaction sets in.”
The use of bureaucratic and dehumanizing language like “processing,” “removals,” “collateral arrests” works exactly the way they’re intended. The neutral terms dull moral reflexes and covertly trains the public to stop seeing the people affected as fully human.
What’s frustrating is you realize that MAGAs and conservatives are fully, willfully complicit in this step-by-step march toward fascism, that no amount of pointing out obvious parallels and mimicries of the Nazi regime makes any difference to them. They have no appreciation for the entire system that was designed to prevent this sort of thing; that it requires active vigilance from all of us. When the day comes, and this kind of violence, poverty, and rights being stripped away from them happens TO THEM, they’ll mew loudly that they didn’t know! That they didn’t vote for this! That they didn’t think this would happen to them!
There’s still a small chance to turn this around, conservatives. You have to be the ones organizing and showing your elected official that you won’t tolerate this evil spreading any further. You’re the ones that have to remove this by the root.

I hope the pro-ICE conservatives seeing understand their voices will be erased, too. I hope you vote this nonsense out later this year.

Asking that same line, don’t forget that the heads of homeland security promoted collective punishment by putting on her podium: “One of ours. All of yours.”Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 9:50 pmhttps://www.reddit.com/r/VideosThatGoHard/s/9FSHv0ZzZq
