I can't recall anyone here asking for his family budget. Or anyone saying he is a multi-millionaire from his apologetic work.DCP wrote:I've never claimed that I've received no money whatever from the Interpreter Foundation. If I buy a ream of printer paper for our volunteer bookkeeper to use, or an ink cartridge to help his printer put marks on that paper, yes, Interpreter reimburses us for it. But the money hasn't gone far beyond that kind of thing. I'm not paid for writing for Interpreter. I'm not paid for any of the administrative work that I do for Interpreter (which is considerable). I'm not paid for the meetings that I conduct or attend on behalf of, or in connection with, Interpreter (which are numerous).
To the best of my recollection, Interpreter has never paid any travel costs or food costs or hotel costs for me, my wife, or any member of my family. However, for the first time -- since I'm now an active on-camera participant in Becoming Brigham (https://interpreterfoundati... -- Redbrick Filmworks has paid my airfare, my lodging, and my food for the project's four-to-six-day filming expeditions (five or six of them, thus far), just as it does for the other two co-hosts and for the three members of the film crew, and just as it has apparently always done (and just as other comparable film companies evidently always do) for their away film shoots.
As to Bountiful Travel -- Cruise Lady no longer exists because, two or three years ago, its proprietor sold it and retired -- their financial decisions are purely commercial and are made by them quite independently of the Interpreter Foundation. Interpreter donations aren't transferred to Bountiful Travel. If the owners of Bountiful Travel decide that having me accompany a tour is worthwhile to them, that (for whatever reason) it makes business sense, that decision is entirely theirs. Just as it is with all of the other people who accompany their tours, most of whom have no connection to Interpreter. Just as it is with the "headliners" who accompany tours for other tour operators, such as these two: https://www.biblicalarchaeo... and https://alumni.stanford.edu.... (There are many more.)
MS: "[ ] Zero [ ] More than Zero. Just pick one."
[X] More than zero.
Unless they're under the impression that food and lodging are free in the Mississippi River Valley and that flights to St. Louis come gratis, this should have been obvious from my statement that Redbrick Filmworks has covered my costs when filming for Becoming Brigham in Nauvoo and environs. Trust me: Pizza, cheeseburgers, Gatorade, and spaghetti cost actual money in Keokuk, Nauvoo, and Fort Madison just as they do in other portions of the United States. Perhaps these critics reside in institutions where the cafeteria food appears at no apparent charge?
MS: "Secondly, do you donate cash to Interpreter, or is it a time donation?”
My wife and I donate both time and money.
Finally, I'm simply not going to post specific figures from my personal finances. Let these folks, if they're serious about the questions they're raising (and assuming that they're employed), post their own personal or family budgets online, share their own employment contracts, tax returns, pay stubs, and receipts. Good grief. Even my friends wouldn't demand such things of me, and My Malevolent Stalker and my poor Mini-Stalker and the unfortunate DumbDud -- I've slightly altered their pseudonyms so as to disguise their anonymous hidden identities -- have done everything they possibly could do to avoid being mistaken for my friends.
If they're really needing a deep dive into my personal finances and into the finances of Interpreter beyond what is already available online (e.g. at https://interpreterfoundati... and beyond what we're already obliged to have made public under the rules governing 501(c)3 tax-exempt entities, they are, as I've said, welcome to try to meet with me and with the folks who are professionally entrusted with managing the Foundation's finances and my finances.
We're calling him out for his decades of claiming he doesn't make one red cent from apologetics. That is now clearly untrue. Hence his need to minimize, create straw men, and resort once again to childish name calling.
Sad to see an emeritus BYU professor act in such a classless, disingenuous manner.
