malkie, I'll give you the option, at least at this point, ignore or keep in the conversation loop?

Your call. Echo chamber? Or not.

Let me know. Thanks. :)

MG
I wasn't sure if you perhaps already had me on ignore. If you had been answering my replies to you I might think otherwise, but at this point I'm not sure that it makes any difference.

My suggestion is that you either consult your chosen AI, or take the advice of my favourite poet:
Piet Hein wrote:Whenever you're called on to make up your mind,
and you're hampered by not having any,
the best way to solve the dilemma, you'll find,
is simply by spinning a penny.
No - not so that chance shall decide the affair
while you're passively standing there moping;
but the moment the penny is up in the air,
you suddenly know what you're hoping.

Actually, if I'm still visible to you, MG, I have another suggestion:

Could you publish somewhere (tag line, perhaps) your current "Ignore" list? You likely have one of the biggest on the board, and it might be helpful for us to see all the folks who are included.

No need. Thanks for responding. As with Limnor, honestly, I’ve enjoyed some of our conversations.

Best wishes to you and yours. May you have prosperity and a good life. I enjoyed the one time we were able to meet each other. :)

More prolonged farewells than The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Check. Done.

One list is shrinking and the other growing longer.

I see what you're doing. It may work!

When marcus told me this strategy to get him to ignore all of us would work I had reservations, but it seems she was correct. Well done team.

MG wrote:The one greater truth. Our God is greater than them all within certain limits and spheres of operation. Everything else beyond that is above any of our pay grades. God told Moses that it was only THIS earth he was being given knowledge of.
But he did give us knowledge of these other places just by telling us they are there and making them a mystery. That's like telling your kids the closet is full of Christmas presents but not to worry about them, and only think about the one you open.

Imagine planet Vesper in a galaxy far away or even within another universe, who knows. It's much like our world, it has it's own prophets and only true church, and scriptures. As Joseph Fielding Smith indicated, Vesper is more balanced. It has wicked and righteousness, but not to our extremes. But it also had its Adam and Eve, there was a fall, and without a redeemer, everyone will end up in hell. There needs to be a savior, but no savior comes.

As it turns out, a prophet arises to explain the good news. In a galaxy far away, there is a planet called Earth, and it was on this planet the savior went to live and die. It is a planet of the greatest extremes, the most righteous and the most wicked. Earth is where things like, the great and final battle of Gog of Magog will happen, where Jesus will come back and destroy the worst of the worst for all eternity. Earth, from the perspective of Vesper, is a wonderous, mythological place. Even though they worship the same Father as we do -- in this case as it's one of his worlds -- they will think of Vesper as a city like Timgad, whereas Earth is the hub of everything, like Rome. Earth will naturally be regarded as a "greater" than Vesper, in general. A person might enjoy their small town life while still acknowledging NYC is more important.

Nothing else in my comment was worth replying to? Am I now on "Ignore", or not?

Of course, if I'm on ignore I won't get a reply, but if history is a guide to the future I may not have got a reply anyway. I must learn to live with the uncertainty :(

Dean,

You highlight a fascinating example of Mormon Exceptionalism. In addition to being among the few lucky and privileged enough to belong to God’s only true church, many members believe they were specifically sent to Earth, the most wicked of all God’s creations, because their extreme righteousness was needed to counter such depravity. Leaders like Brigham Young and Joseph Fielding Smith taught that of all the worlds without number, Earth was the only one wicked enough to actually crucify Jesus. What a holy honor and a clear testament to our pre-mortal righteousness to be assigned here.

Makes total sense.

Sure!
IHQ, Marcus, sock puppet, Wang Chang, malkie, Limnor, Shulem, malkie (you seemed to want it that way).

I haven't exited the board. Never said I was. Simply reevaluating the time I spend here.

If I see something noteworthy or interesting that I believe might be interesting to members of the board that may not be in the 'core group' I may post it for possible interest. If I see a thread topic that holds interest and doesn't seem to be one of many times it's already been discussed I may post something either independently and/or respond to someone not on my ignore list that I've found to be mostly civil and is not carrying out a personal vendetta that they are not able to let go of.

I think I may know who those folks are. Most of them, however, post infrequently.

This being the case, the board can now mostly do what it does best. Act as an echo chamber with everyone essentially on the same page. Bash Mormonism and its leaders and doctrines.

More or less a free for all.

In order to facilitate that I will not directly respond to those that have this desire and motive so as to make this a 'safe place' for those of like mind. If I see something alluded/referred to by a non ignored poster that prompts me to chime in with something pertinent, I will...although I will not interact with those on my ignore list.

This is, of course, knowing that I am giving free reign to those folks that have done and will continue to do what they do best.

Sadly, haha, they will not have anyone to troll around as they have done. If they do they will be ignored on my part.

I would rather it didn't have to be this way but this will work out better for all concerned. Including me, of course. Best wishes to those that I've had previous conversations with and no longer will.

I look forward to interacting with some board members occasionally (some might be new or infrequent posters) who I find interesting and thoughtful.
