It’s like repeating a testimony, or a testimony becoming true in the bearing of it. “Coherence becomes true in the declaring of it.”

Why would you actively post derails to your own thread?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I notice that about all religious subjects from the church as well. It is interesting. It's like its stuck in a groove with no forward understanding and knowledge. It was one reason I went elsewhere looking for more light and knowledge that Father promised.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 16, 2026 9:23 pmJust a point of interest. If you type in "plates" to the search bar at the top of this page there are 585 pages of discussion history on this board on this topic.
I know that for some that's a big "so what" and "don't you have anything to add?"
Well, I did, along with others on those 585 pages. I think pious fraud may have come up a few times also. Isn't it interesting how the same sorts of things are recycled year after year...maybe with a touch of make up/shadow added on here and there.
Rehash after rehash...with respect to those that are in the business of doing so.

Re: How often "plates" are discussed here.
I think the reason for the unending interest is obvious. Joseph Smith said he had a lost civilization's ancient plates with Reformed Egyptian writing on them. He said he found them by divine revelation, interacted with an angel about them, and that he then translated their language--which he did not know--using sacred relics buried with those plates. None of us has seen the plates, the writing on them, or the sacred relics found with them. So . . . . .
Why is that not a mystery to look into or talk about A LOT?!?!?!?!?!?
PEOPLE LOVE MYSTERIES!
They love aliens, Big Foot, Lost Tribes of Israel, ghosts, demons, angels, magic, lost civilizations, buried treasures, etc.
Joseph Smith's Book of Mormon narrative checks a lot of boxes that people are interested in.
I think it would be more miraculous if people were NOT constantly asking a lot of questions about his claims regarding the Book of Mormon.

But we do have the David Whitmer Caractors Document which is very likely to contain actual characters that Joseph Smith would have affirmed were on the plates. These characters are complete BS. This is not Egyptian in any way, shape, or form. It is not a so-called reformed Egyptian. It's stupid stuff -- made up crap. Period.

Rev., I would not be averse to your adding Nessie to your list of mysteries - as long as she is accorded due respect, of course!Kishkumen wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2026 3:42 pmI think the reason for the unending interest is obvious.
