Jeffrey R. Holland wrote:One reason we do not emphasize the cross as a symbol stems from our biblical roots. Because crucifixion was one of the Roman Empire’s most agonizing forms of execution, many early followers of Jesus chose not to highlight that brutal instrument of suffering.
(UNIVERSAL RULE: No specific temple content allowed.)
But Mormons EMPHASIZE all manner of crucifixion cruelty in their secrettemplerituals with regard to tokens when they physically express them. Those tokens are simply dreadful and are expressions of a brutal instrument.

Jesus carrying his cross is benign compared to what Mormons do in the temple when they receive SECRET tokens that are directly related to sharp objects that have to do with the...
It certainly looks like a nail wound, which would be a massive faux pas. It will be interesting to see it in person and review both feet and both hands.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

No.
I don't see it. Look at the upper hand, there is no mark/wound:

Here is the artists' gallery, if anyone is curious. I'm certainly not qualified to opine, but a few of his works hit me. I wonder who his model was for "Heaven and Earth"? The expression they have on their face makes my innards feel something, that I can't quite put a finger on. Kind of a bemused peace of sorts.
I'm partial to "Divinity."

Perhaps we have as good of a view of the upper hand as could be had in person? Just right click on the picture above and open that image in a new tab and click on the magnifier icon to enlarge everything. Then look at the upper hand and you can clearly see how the metacarpals are spread and there is absolutely no marking/wound on the perfectly formed and unbroken skin exactly where a nail would have penetrated.
Nonetheless, someone will please go and investigate.
For me, the whole thing is in poor taste. I do not care for it. Why they would put such a horrible and morbid statue on temple grounds is beyond me. Former Church Presidents must be rolling in their caskets and cursing the day that Christ never appeared during their lifetimes. This bronze statue of Christ's physical suffering while stumbling over temple landscaping is a bad PR stunt. It stinks. It is not in keeping with LDS tradition and former policy to keep temple grounds upbeat and positive.
I stared at this picture for a minute -- it doesn't work. It clashes with the temple.
And how are they going to work around the statue with the annual Christmas light displays? Imagine celebrating Jesus suffering as he stumbles across temple grounds draped in colorful Christmas lights. What could be more stupid than putting a suffering Jesus on temple grounds while the whole area is decked out with festive lighting?
Jesus. Mormons have made a trainwreck out of Jesus.
