Dan would have to know the historical treatment of crosses in Mormon history. Maybe he is intentionally trolling this board.

He trolls this board and feeds on it as if it contains the sustenance he craves that keeps him going. Although this board is a bit of a soundboard to him and a nuisance, he loves it. He's part of it -- although he's a ghost here.

Boo!

PS. Dan, what was ancient Egypt (Upper & Lower) doing before Noah's ark settled in about 2400 BC whereafter the first Pharaoh was made king? You know the story, don't you?

It isn't just Dan. It is systemic in Mormonism. Every problematic issue that arises in Mormonism triggers a reflex deep in a member’s subterranean consciousness which subsequently creates elaborate (much like Don Bradley does) solutions that solve the issue. Salamander problem? Oaks jumped in with the infamous Salamander letter. Book of Mormon anachronisms? They are decreasing! The problem of divine hiddenness? Epistemic distance! Joseph's polygamy? It doesn't have to be a deal breaker! There isn't a single issue that doesn't have some half-assed answer dressed up as Elohim's gift to humanity. No more uncontested slam dunks dammit!

I used to work with someone who compared this to the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern coin flip. Heads just keeps coming up, and instead of stopping the game, they start generating explanations. The explanations don’t have to work, they just have to keep the game going.

DCP has a rather lazy routine of dealing with these. 3 easy steps:

1) Ignore any strong criticism entirely
2) Pick out the weakest criticism
3) Misrepresent it and strawman it to death

Wash rinse repeat. Yawn.

??

1) Anubis's nose being hacked off the lead plate. What has Peterson and his silly apologetic website said about that?
2) Egypt being established in 2,300 BC according to Mormonism has not been addressed either.

Most of what I have seen apologist do (Steven Harper and others) is to admit off record that it was altered. Then it begins. Joseph was seeing hidden messages and Anubis had to be a slave...the pious fraud gives him cover because anything goes when Jesus is the focus.

Those little bastards working in the dark use deception, lies, and deny transparency. Bring them before Shulem and I will wipe them out! I will show no mercy.

I will mop the floors with every Mormon apologist who dares to defy true scholarship. My anger is kindled against them. Bring them all before me. All of them!

Yes it is the classic child response has when you answer a question but the child keeps a train of questions going on indefinitely. The difference? It isn't an infinite line of questions but half baked answers.

If it ever were to land tails, would anything actually change? You get things like “that’s not really tails,” or “that flip didn’t count,” or even “that tails has already been explained.”
