What Democrats mean by saving democracy is that all voters either voluntarily or at gunpoint, accept and embrace the democratic socialist ideology. To me this sounds a lot more like an authoritarian dictatorship by Democrat party leaders, who will do anything and everything with no holds barred to gain and retain power. But to you, that's what democracy means.
Who is talking about having ICE agents with guns outside of polling places in 2024? ICE agents that think probable cause to lock you up is having brown skin, and never mind if you have a birth certificate and/or passport on you, could be fake, so best to take you in and sort it out in a day or two. Is that democracy? Is it not disenfranchising certain voters who tend to vote for the other side? Is the supposed threat you imagine Democrats pose in the future justifying Republicans preemptively doing it?

I know I won't get a serious answer, not posting for you, posting for the other adults in the room.

The police can run a check on an ID through a search engine and see that it's valid. Show me a case where ICE has detained a legal citizen in jail for several days in order to determine if their ID is valid.

Most Democrats are in favor of partisan political prosecution of their political opponents for the purpose of disenfranchising voters that they disagree with. That's not democracy and it's certainly not constitutional.
Ajax I do not know of any Democrats who are in favor of this. To prosecute somebody far enough to stop them voting you. Need to convict them of a felony and get them in jail. This requires a target to cooperate by committing a crime and getting caught. Then how would you be sure who this disenfranchised voter would have voted for?

I guess there might happen instances of Republican leaders helping by committing crime.

He is adept at blaming others for his own malfeasance and incompetence. You will need to forcibly remove the Trumps from the White House, because an election result won’t do it.

Does this fit into your definition of the democracy your party claims they want to save? We'll count your vote, but only if you run Nikki Haley or another member of the controlled opposition as the Republican candidate.

And what would that be, exactly, and driven by what legislation?

Please point to the law that gives ICE the power to randomly pull people from polling lines, to check their citizenship papers.

Asking for myself, this time. I don’t have a valid current passport and my birth certificate - which, as a state-issued document, actually looks like it was mocked up in MS Paint by a 7th grader, truthfully - stays in a safe deposit box, typically, because no law requires that I need to bring it with me to vote.

Why will ICE pull me out of the polling lines, and what do I tell them to convince them that I should vote?

If there is no law that entitles ICE to "to randomly pull people from polling lines, to check their citizenship papers", then you are not obliged to do anything to convince them that you should be allowed to vote.

No doubt ajax18 thinks that you should not assert your legal rights, and instead try to convince the ICE people to their satisfaction that you should be allowed to vote, and if they are not satisfied submit quietly when they drag you into a van.

Or what do you think canpakes should to, ajax18, if ICE people pull him out of a voting line and demand to see proof of citizenship?

Ajax, it is interesting how different people holding different expectations can read the same thing as if meaning opposite things. I hear Questions saying that if votes are against Trump or his preferred successor he will not accept what the voters said and declare the vote wrong and mount some sort of riot to try and change the result of what voters wanted.

I noticed that when voters choose Trump, Democrats accepted even if grumbling a lot.

Chap, I would expect your experience on this to be like mine. I have never gone around in my country with proof of citizenship. People are not stopped to show papers. It is hard not to feel it a basic freedom from threat. I wonder how Ajax would feel being stopped and having proof of citizenship demanded.

  • Americans Detained: The government doesn’t track how many citizens are held by immigration agents. We found more than 170 cases this year where citizens were detained at raids and protests.
  • Held Incommunicado: More than 20 citizens have reported being held for over a day without being able to call their loved ones or a lawyer. In some cases their families couldn’t find them.
  • Cases Wilted: Agents have arrested about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, for allegedly interfering with or assaulting officers, yet those cases were often dropped.
