Israel's judgement
During the Tribulation, two thirds of Israel's population is going to get wiped out by the antichrist. The remnant will then flee to the mountains of Petra where God will look after them.

Spot on, Res. Trump is so evil he'd kill his own wife and children if it made him enough money doing so.
I hope top military brass turns on him very soon. He must be removed from office without delay.
Israel is going to get wiped out.
I'm going to the store today to stock up on supplies.

Q: I don't think you're funny at all -- or entertaining. I think you're evil. Members of the LDS Church don't always take some of these narratives you are referring to in "word for word" specificity/literalism as evangelicals and some other Christians do. Sometimes we may. In fact, Latter-day Saints, at times, may look at the 'literalist' point of view as being more symbolic/metaphoric...while at the same time referring to real events.Quantum1982 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 3:51 pmDuring the Tribulation, two thirds of Israel's population is going to get wiped out by the antichrist. In regards to the "mountains of Petra" Latter-day Saints would redefine and redirect that scripture you are referring to to apply to the "Mountain of the Lord"...or gathering to the Temples built by the church.
The CofJCofLDS does believe/teach that Jesus Christ will appear on the Mount of Olives and deliver the Jewish people. The "mountain split" will be centered in Jerusalem, not Petra.
In other words, it's kind of a mix and match sort of thing. Modern day prophets and scripture outline and add more context to Bibilical accounts/representations of events that will...and have already...occurred.

I believe the term is “cafeteria Mormonism.”MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:15 pmMembers of the LDS Church don't always take some of these narratives you are referring to in "word for word" specificity/literalism as evangelicals and some other Christians do. Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

This type of slipperiness about the fullness of the gospel? Sounds like the LDS just want to always make sure they have wiggle room.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:15 pmMembers of the LDS Church don't always take some of these narratives you are referring to in "word for word" specificity/literalism as evangelicals and some other Christians do. Re: Israel's judgement
I think that being a realist and looking at things from as many different angles as possible is not a bad thing. A common misconception, in my opinion, is the idea/concept that 'one size fits all' in all situations, at all times, forever without end.sock puppet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2026 6:36 pmThis type of slipperiness about the fullness of the gospel? The universe/world/mankind are dynamic, not static. God, as well as the rest of us, has to adjust to the workings (laws of nature and being) of things as 'they really are'. That doesn't make Him anything less as God.

Re: Israel's judgement
I don’t think Quantum is really here to have any serious discussion… this post for example has nothing to do with Mormonism. I do appreciate you trying to steer him towards salience though!MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2026 7:15 pmMembers of the LDS Church don't always take some of these narratives you are referring to in "word for word" specificity/literalism as evangelicals and some other Christians do.
