Paul said you will have problems if you get married. He was saying it's easier to commit to Christ when you are single?

Well this brings up questions which might matter. I do not see any reason to think marriage would make it harder to commit to Christ. That of course underlines the question what does it mean to commit to Christ?

It is entirely possible th at Paul expected so much trouble and likely the end of the world. ( whatever that could mean) that marriage would extra difficult.

Paul not being a silly person advised couples with strong desire to go a head and marry anyway.

If the New Testament abolished slavery, why would it tell slaves to obey masters instead of telling masters to stop owning them?

Slavery was abolished in the New Testament

No where in those writings did YHWH abolish slavery. Jews, and “Christian Jews,” owned slaves in the Second Temple period. It was a normal thing in the world at the time. In fact, it really wasn’t until reformed Judaism did Jews, along with the rest of the world, start to reject slavery. So, my point, YHWH didn’t give two craps about slavery, and it was mankind itself who reasoned against the practice.

As an aside, here in the states, there are still people who want to practice slavery because they’re garbage human beings. But, also, they place their pro-slavery beliefs in the Bible because the Bible codified it.

Sometimes I have to take pause and remember there are people in the world who are genuinely fearful of a mental construct (a supernatural being) they've created they call "god." This thing that exists only in their mind purportedly spending all its time judging their behavior.

I mean, I suppose many of our fears are self-generated, based on faulty perceptions. But the god thing... that's really signing up for unnecessary pain and burden. I'll never understand it. It's beyond unnecessary. It's like making a habit of burning yourself with lit cigarettes regularly because you think it gives you spiritual fulfillment.

Hey, did you know Jesus was quoting the Old Testament when he said that? Why don't you go ahead and provide the context for the rest of the class about what that verse is referring to.
