I don't think they knew at first, and I agree with your assessment.malkie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 6:21 pmPerhaps I missed this detail, but did the sisters know right away, without any explanation, that it was their friendly neighbour, RFM, who moved the pumpkin? Or did they only find that out later?
When they knew that they had been pranked by RFM I can understand that they would consider it to be a harmless joke, and at least publicly say that they were fine with the prank.
But up till that point, not knowing who had done what, or with what intent, I would expect them to be upset, wary, perhaps outright afraid. And if they were not, I believe that, for my taste, they were all too casual about their safety/security.
But I wasn't there, and what do I know?

They reportedly told Wendy they didn't notice the prank. We have the text message that they said after the fact "we didn't even really notice". They did not lose a wink of sleep over it, so you can create an hypothetical where they were scared and had the mission leadership come and save them, but in this specific case we know it wasn't noticed. They had to be informed the next morning. I referenced and provided the screenshot of the text message they sent to mission leadership laughing it off in a situation completely removed from Wendy and RFM. You can't say they laughed it off then out of protecting themselves unless you believe they feel they needed protection from mission leadership.

I listened to the entire podcast and what stood out to me is that RFM and his S/O had apparently cordial relations with the sister missionaries and had made no effort to “deconstruct” their faith. The pumpkin thing, however, could have easily went south: (“O My Gosh, Sister Brown! How did that pumpkin get in here? Could someone be hiding in our apartment? I am getting scared!” “Sister Green, I have a plan! Let’s split up! You go run into the woods while I take a shower!”).
The Calvary seem to have very high standards as to what actions are worthy of disbarment. Wonder if it would have cut both ways. To the best of my knowledge, Lawyer and Stake President (and former Mission President) B. Lloyd Poelman was never disbarred for soliciting oral sex from a 19-year-old prostitute. Unlike RFM, however, Poelman chose to be a weasel about it.
Don’t want to derail the thread, so I’ll just provide a link to Poelman’s story for comparison’s sake: https://floodlit.org/a/a290/

So, yes - I did miss this. Apologies.Dwight wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 7:26 pmThey reportedly told Wendy they didn't notice the prank. ok.
Here's where you assume quite a few things about these women, which I have some doubts about..They did not lose a wink of sleep over it, so you can create an hypothetical where they were scared and had the mission leadership come and save them, but in this specific case we know it wasn't noticed. They had to be informed the next morning.
and now you're assuming things about responders, which are definitely incorrect.I referenced and provided the screenshot of the text message they sent to mission leadership laughing it off in a situation completely removed from Wendy and RFM. You can't say they laughed it off then out of protecting themselves unless you believe they feel they needed protection from mission leadership.
Incidentally, I find it ironic that you state a Mormon woman would feel 'mission leadership' are the protectors they need. Out in the real world, women who feel unsafe in this manner call the police.
Yes. Couldn't agree more.malkie wrote: ...But up till that point, not knowing who had done what, or with what intent, I would expect them to be upset, wary, perhaps outright afraid. And if they were not, I believe that, for my taste, they were all too casual about their safety/security...

Wise words. I am in the same position.
So, a prank that was not the best idea, may have genuinely scared the targets, and maybe we will know one day what the actual dynamics and impacts of the situation were.
I am glad everyone is safe and no one has lost their job over this.

Or, better yet, just consider it a given that entering other people's homes without their knowledge and permission is unacceptable behavior.
The bar complaint is not justified, there are other solutions.
I hope these teenage Mormon missionary women eventually learn that they do not have to tolerate 'pranks' such as this.

Out of curiosity, Marcus, would you have called the police? I have to admit I might have. If I had no idea who did it, I might call the police.Marcus wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 10:55 pmOr, better yet, just consider it a given that entering other people's homes without their knowledge and permission is unacceptable behavior.

When I was much younger and living by myself, I came home one evening after a day teaching in the city, and my door was standing open. I called my local police and they came over immediately and an officer walked through the house for me. No one was inside so I apologized but they stopped me and said I had done the right thing.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2026 2:06 amOut of curiosity, Marcus, would you have called the police? Another time, I came downstairs to find a person wearing the work vest of our local utilities, with an official-looking ID around his neck, inside my living room. He startled me and I yelled 'get out of my house,' but he held up his ID and said 'I'm an employee! Sorry for entering, but since I'm here can I check your meters?' The police in my town had sent around a notice about people scamming homeowners with utilities id's, so I just kept yelling 'get out of my house' and he eventually left. I was extremely distressed by that experience. That time I called the police and also made a report to our local utilities.
Another time, I left my car/house keys in my door as I was bringing in stuff. My neighbor took the keys out of my door, then sat on his porch and watched my house until I came out. He came over to give me my keys, and I was very appreciative of his help. He did NOT enter my house. He said he didn't mind waiting for me a bit, but that he would have dropped my keys off at the police station and explained the situation if I hadn't come back out before he left. He didn't have my phone number at the time and I wasn't answering the bell, and he didn't want to leave a note because he thought that wasn't safe and might make me a target.
Long story short, yes, I probably would have called the police.

Especially if you had no immediate idea who did it, because you would also then have no knowledge that your door was wide open when they did it. You would naturally assume that someone opened the door, possibly by force, and confronting your porch decoration now placed into your home, might also expect that the person who did this could have done any number of other actions within your home, from rifling through your personal belongings to concealing monitoring devices or cameras.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2026 2:06 amOut of curiosity, Marcus, would you have called the police? There are few things more unsettling than having your personal home space violated by an unknown person for an unknown reason. And even if you later found out that it was your neighbor that you think you know pretty well, what guarantee is there that you truly know everything about them or their intent?
