David Wills calls my attention, from Australia, to this brief exposition of what once would have been regarded as pretty much unexceptional common sense:

I suppose Dan thought the “common-sense” movement would never come for him

If you want your religion to be taken seriously, perhaps you should take others seriously too. I seem to remember some sort of Golden Rule about treating others how you would like to be treated.

"Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints"? That's not us!

OTOH, the SDAs and JWs got the heave too, ...
No, those other cults got listed as Christian. Only the Mormons (out of the major churches Christians consider cults) got excluded from the Christian category.
Thanks for correcting my sloppy error, Equality.

BasedMikeLee has been posting up a storm on X, quoting from the Book of Mormon several times and challenging readers to read it, pray about it, and then tell him whether “Latter-day Saints believe in Jesus Christ.” His post of twelve hours ago:
I just got off the phone with President Trump

We discussed the Pentagon’s “Christian list”

I won’t speak for him, but I’m thrilled about where this is heading

We’re most fortunate that President Trump (1) loves Latter-day Saints, and (2) is our commander in chief

Stay tuned
I am not making this up.

I wonder if BasedMikeLee demanded that Atheist, Heathen, Scientologist, Asatru, Deist, Pantheist, Unitarian Universalist, Community of Christ, Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Apostolic United Brethren, Church of the Firstborn of the Fullness of Times, Mormon Transhumanist, Wiccan, and all other faiths included in the 2017 memo be added to the list during his call with the president. No word on whether BasedMikeLee told the president if he didn’t change the new list to classify the Mormon Church as Christian, “you’re either crooked or you’re stupid!”

The Mormon Church has been strangely silent about the list.

Drumedude. I am confused by your family picture and caption. If the comments are from a person supporting sex change theoretics it is so over the top as likely having a negative result. So much so I incline to think the comments are from a person who is attacking "woke" people who accept sex changes for individuals.

Looks like the Mormons are back in the Christian family after Senator Mike Lee made a stink. If people were this ecumenical and pragmatic all the time maybe we could have avoided the 30 Years War.

Our long national nightmare is over.

BasedMikeLee raged, “It’s just repugnant to any sense of decency, any sense of our common heritage and our common belief that the government needs to not weigh in on doctrinal disputes between various religious denominations.” It’s also repugnant that BasedMikeLee didn’t stand up for those ideals by demanding to know why the Department of Defense cut the 2017 list down to ~30 and why those ~30 specific groups were selected. Instead, he spent several days crusading to have the U.S. government classify his own faith group as Christian.

Note: the list still misspells the church’s name.

Since they categorized the JWs as Christian, I doubt this was intentional or theologically motivated or pandering to evangelical Christian nationalists.

It's just another day of the Trump administration not understanding how anything works and being generally incompetent at anything and everything they do.

Still, it was good for a laugh while it lasted.

They just appeased the Mormons by removing the Christian label entirely from all religions.

The implication is hilarious - if Mormons are Christian, then no one is Christian.

Some people X identify as members of group Y, but the majority of other Y members have long defined their Y status by criteria which clearly exclude the X people. The X folks insist that they do fulfill other criteria for being accepted as Y, and further insist that these criteria are more important than the ones which exclude them.

Some people who count as Y by all the criteria are willing to accept the X argument, and accept the X's as bona-fide Y's even if they are not the most common kind of Y, because since when did being a Y have to mean all being exactly the same? These more broad-minded Y's maybe reckon that being recognized as Y is important to the X people, and it costs nothing to accept the X's as fellow Y's except perhaps an occasional sensation of weirdness, so why not be kind when being kind is so easy? If you actually get to know an X or two, as a matter of fact, you may well find that it's not hard at all to consider them Y.

Other people whose own Y status is unchallenged insist that they cannot just change their minds about who gets to be in the Y group, because whether or not one is a Y is an objective fact that cannot be changed by relabelling anyone.

Then, however, there are people who in their own way are X's wanting to be accepted as some kind of Y, in spite of well established definitions that exclude them, and who yet mock and scold people who would like to be accepted as another kind of Y, because in that case, but not in their own case, the customary definitions of the majority must be considered as unchangeable facts.
