LDS Apologist dies in car crash

Post by I Have Questions »

The report
Chandler David Hendry, affectionately known as ‘Chuck’ was an apologist for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). As per online claims, he was killed in a car accident in Lehi, Utah.
Don’t know much about him.
Hendry ran the Restored Truth online platform. As per his Facebook profile, he's from Midway, Utah, and lived in Meridian, Ohio.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

I’d advise Hitchens Obsession Blog readers not to follow the link to Facebook shared by the Afore. The link goes to a Facebook group page entitled “Friends who love nollywood yoruba.” The Afore needs to remove his link to an obviously bogus page with clickbait (fake obituary).

From your article
Witnesses reported that at approximately 8:25 a.m., Hendry, 27, ran a red light at 1200 W. and collided with two northbound vehicles. Hendry was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Ran a red light. Not wearing a seatbelt. It’s lucky that the idiot didn’t kill someone else.

Sad for his family and friends. My condolences to them. Wear your seatbelts, apologists. Obey all traffic signals.

Someone reported there being more videos demonstrating recording while driving and not wearing a seatbelt, but I didn't see them, but his last video on Facebook was from the day before, and he was very clearly more worried about looking into his phone, recording/streaming as he was driving, and had no seatbelt on. The person who saw that and some other recent examples said there was one video his wife and him were discussing baby names as they were ready to start their family and having kids and he was driving and they were both clearly not wearing seatbelts.

Glad the other drivers weren't hurt, but horrific for them to be involved. I guess since he was unable to procreate he can get a Darwin Award and maybe just maybe his widow, and other family members that think seat belts aren't cool will learn to buckle-up.

In an article about his death, the Deseret News fails to mention some key details…
A Utah social media influencer who often encouraged his followers to “keep your knees on the ground and your eyes toward heaven” died Friday as he drove to a conference about defending and promoting the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Chandler “Chuck” David Hendry, 27 — who often dedicated his online content to encouraging missionary work — died Aug. 7, 2026, in a car accident in Lehi, Utah, on his way to the FAIR apologetics conference.
No mention that he caused the accident in which he lost his life, that he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt belt (a common practice of his by all accounts), that he ran a red light, and that he was likely typing on his mobile phone at the time of the accident. He chose to gamble with other people’s lives, and it’s fortunate that on this occasion his choice of recklessness only hurt himself.

Why not report the truth? It could help prevent others being so reckless.

Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
