I say this with total sincerity.
No you don't say it with total sincerity.
Why care, then, about anything this guy says or thinks? He’ll never engage you.
I don't expect him to engage me, it's completely rational for him to avoid engaging me. There would be no benefit to him engaging me.
You’ll never engage him. What’s the point?
What's the point of responding to what politicians or influencers or news articles say if they are never going to respond?

What makes this whole thing funny and entertaining, from my neverMo perspective, is that Peterson often writes from a seemingly lofty place, so when Gad or somebody else successfully gets under his skin, it punctures that image a little. I’m actually surprised he gets so visibly irritated by internet hecklers. You’d think responding would feel like punching below his weight. The added entertainment value is “The Before/Nolan” pretending to be a mediator while not especially subtle about what he’s doing.

External commentary complete.

That hurts, man. You don’t know me.

The reason people pontificate about politics is to persuade people to their position so that people will vote for their preferred person. (I tried to make an alliteration there.)

I don’t see how that’s related.

Hilarious. Are we done now?
Hopefully never.

If I were you, I'd delete my character, pull out another character sheet, and use the dice to roll new one with better stats. You could call the new one 'Bolan.' No one here would be the wiser.
Bolan, Before… close enough.

Why? That was a compliment. You're too intelligent to really believe that the only reason to respond to a public figure is hoping to get a one-on-one dialog going. You're also too intelligent to really believe that calling a public figure on the phone to ask questions that they aren't responding to from another forum is a good idea or has a chance of working.

Well, I was just offering a suggestion, one that has worked for me in my life. I really don’t care, nor am I mediating. Thanks for your response.

No it hasn't worked in your life, not in this context. You may have called somebody from your neighborhood, your ward, or school, which could make sense. You haven't called an academic on the Internet that you have a bone to pick with to see if they'll answer your questions in private. You certainly haven't done it where there's a risk of in real life retribution. And this isn't a normal setting. If this were me calling a geneticist to question his published theories he's invested his career in, there is a small chance that the bait might be taken, especially if I had been a persistent enough critic, because perhaps a couple things I'm misunderstanding could be explained and I'd come to respect the position. But that isn't the case here. It would be like calling Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity on the phone to debate the stolen election. The Afore isn't significantly invested in any of his ideas beyond their rhetorical use to build solidarity with his base or to stick it to critics and unbelievers.

Completely non-communicant indeed, and fine with it. Sadly, fine with it. I would not wish to be out of the religion that my ancestors struggled and died for, but, yes, I am completely non-communicant. And, really, I am not sure they would have stuck with the LDS Church as it is today either. That is neither a denigration of them nor a criticism of the LDS Church. I think of it as an open question. Would they have stayed in?

We can seek to thrive in ways that become incompatible with the societies we once found a home in. If I wanted people feeling for my garments, checking my eyes to see whether I have the sparkle of the Holy Ghost, looking at my video collection for rated "R" movies, sniffing for the telltale smells of coffee or tobacco on me, or many other informal, busybody inspections, I might still be active LDS. I might even be thankful for their
DCP wrote:I have to admit that his remark is so utterly foreign to my understanding of home teachers and “ministers” (I’m not overly fond of the latter terminology) that, even days later, I find myself marveling at how . . . well, frankly, at how warped and dyspeptic and bizarre it seems to me. I can’t recall ever feeling that the ward teachers or home teachers or visiting teachers or ministering brothers and sisters were there to snoop or to spy on me.
NIMW (Not in my ward!). There it is, one of the oldest tricks in the Mopologetic book. "Your concerns are unimportant because I never had them." Yes, friends, I watched home teachers comb through my video collection to take stock of the movies there and comment on the Rated R films. Because, you know, that is what is important. "Are you following the Brethren? Or are you going astray and not following their counsel? Does your daughter have bare shoulders at church? Does she have double-pierced earlobes? Did we see you go into a Rated R movie? Do you listen to devil music like Ozzy Osbourne?"
Yes, and as always, DCP a.k.a. the Great Gaslighter claims that his beloved church is without blemish, especially the Great Gaslighter's own, particular experience as a Mormon. Of course, he's never felt encouraged to snitch on a fellow LDS and never has. Right??? (ha ha ha). Of course, how then does he explain this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ueuz0-Rnd5c ??? and why would he leave comrades to die on the battlefield of porn/masturbation ??? The Great Gaslighter would do well to think before he hits the post button.

I want to state, explicitly, that I believe that we should listen carefully to those who leave the Church, and that we should treat them kindly and with charity.

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.
