Mormon at ages 11, 15, 24 is really Joseph Smith Jr., in disguise!

They never really existed!

Post by Shulem »

After publication of the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith spent the rest of his prophetic career by name-dropping many prophets and persons recorded in the Bible by which their names were mentioned time and time again in various sermons and writings. But the same cannot be said for Book of Mormon prophets! It's as though the people in the Book of Mormon were not important and never existed. They were never brought up again in any of Smith's discourses or writings! Why? Because, Joseph Smith knew they never really existed but were pure figments of his imagination when he was 24 years old, thus he avoided them because keeping track of them was simply not worth the trouble so he stuck with what he really knew, the Bible! Smith was confident of the Bible but not so with the Book of Mormon because he knew in his mind in heart it was all psychological fantasy.

The following post is copied from the Book of Mormon Original Manuscript thread in the Celestial forum and deserves special attention here because this post nails it:

To be perfectly honest, I think Joseph Smith just wanted to get rid of the manuscript and pitch it in a place he thought it would be safe in a self-preserved condition. Smith did not want to hold on to the manuscript any longer because he felt he had outgrown it and the memories of the translation of a stone in the hat was something he wanted to put behind him. I think Smith thought the manuscript was a burden and carrying it around and keeping it locked up was something he no longer wanted to do. Get rid of it and move on! He wanted it covered up and buried. He did not want people looking at it. He did not want to discuss it or *how* he translated! I think he was embarrassed .

Smith hoped to provide other translations to include the Book of Joseph from the papyrus and the lost tales of the Egyptian Jaredites compliments of the Kinderhook plates. Although the Book of Mormon was Smith’s original masterpiece, he was ready to move on and the manuscript served as a memory of those days long ago when he fooled Cowdery with the head in the hat trick and secret cheat sheets in keeping his stories and numbers straight.

Bottom line: Smith got rid of the manuscript because he did not want it, nor did he want to discuss it.

Needless to say, shortly after the book was published and introduced to the world, Smith rarely discussed people and stories in the Book of Mormon in any particular fashion. In 1830, Smith declared, "I will drink of the fruit of the vine with you on the earth, and with Moroni, whom I have sent unto you to reveal the Book of Mormon" and months later said, "Open your mouths and they shall be filled, and you shall become even as Nephi of old, who journeyed from Jerusalem in the wilderness." A few years later Smith said, "Behold, this is the law I gave unto my servant Nephi, and thy fathers, Joseph, and Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham, and all mine ancient prophets and apostles."

Interestingly enough, the defunct Lectures on Faith published in the 1835 D&C include an important mention therein, probably authored by Sidney Rigdon saying, "Moroni, while abridging and compiling the record of his fathers, has given us the following account of faith as the principle of power: He says, page 563, that it was the faith of Alma and Amulek which caused the walls of the prison to be wrent, as recorded on the 264th page; that it was the faith of Nephi and Lehi which caused a change to be wrought upon the hearts of the Lamanites, when they were immersed with the Holy Spirit, and with fire, as seen on the 421st page, and that it was by faith that the mountain Zerin was removed, when the brother of Jared spake in the name of the Lord."

Bottom line: Smith hardly ever preached the Book of Mormon like he did the Bible! He did not want to discuss it! It was a closed book and in the end he got rid of the trance-induced manuscript in which he had no interest in keeping. He wanted to move on. Joseph was growing up. He was no longer eleven years old. He was not in his fifteenth year. He was not twenty-four. He was ready for bigger and better things!

Re: Eleven (11)

Joseph Smith's own pen tells how he was born of goodly parents (1 Nephi 1:1) and raised in Christianity:

Joseph Smith, 1832 wrote:I was born in the town of Charon in the State of Vermont North America on the twenty third day of December AD 1805 of goodly Parents who spared no pains to instructing me in the christian religion

Just like Joseph, Nephi said he was "born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father", and yet another boy prophet by the name of Mormon was also raised in the learning of his father and according to the story was given special prophetic instructions from Ammaron who was a record-keeper and prophet. Note how Mormon learned about buried plates by the time he was in his 10th year and shortly thereafter began to be learned and undoubtedly quite spiritual in nature:

Mormon 1:2 wrote:And about the time that Ammaron hid up the records unto the Lord, he came unto me, (I being about ten years of age, and I began to be learned somewhat after the manner of the learning of my people) and Ammaron said unto me: I perceive that thou art a sober child, and art quick to observe;

Joseph Smith Jr (son of Joseph Sr) mirrored his own life by playing the boy Mormon in disguise:

Mormon 1:5,6 wrote:And I, Mormon, being a descendant of Nephi, (and my father’s name was Mormon) I remembered the things which Ammaron commanded me. And it came to pass that I, being eleven years old, was carried by my father into the land southward, even to the land of Zarahemla.

Now, here's the kicker:

Joseph Smith, 1832 wrote:At about the age of twelve years my mind become seriously imprest with regard to the all importent concerns for the wellfare of my immortal Soul which led me to searching the scriptures believeing as I was taught, that they contained the word of God

Note that about the age of twelve, after Joseph and his father's family had migrated to a new land (New York) when he was eleven years old (just as 11-year old Mormon when going to Zarahemla), that God, religion, and the immortal soul weighed upon Joseph's heart and mind by the time he reached the age of twelve. It's interesting to point out that nobody in the Book of Mormon is mentioned being twelve years old and in the entire Bible there are only three persons that are specifically marked as age twelve, two of which are of no consequence but the third is quite telling: King Manasseh, Jairus’s Daughter, and Jesus while visiting the temple in Jerusalem. I get the impression that Joseph was trying to be like Jesus! And, like Mormon, Joseph Smith would see Jesus within just a few years.

All of this was very much on the mind of Joseph Smith while he dictated his personal fantasies with his face buried in a hat as he pretended to translate ancient matters just as he did with the hieroglyphic writings in Facsimile No. 3 of the Book of Abraham. Mormon was Joseph's secret and was the only person alive that knew it!

Let's play a Book of Mormon game, kids!
  • How old was Mormon when he moved to Zarahemla?
How old was Joe when he moved to New York?
  • How old was Mormon when he saw Jesus?
How old was Joe when he saw Jesus?
  • How old was Mormon when he dug up buried plates from a hill?

And now YOU know. And, you'll never forget it! Nothing will ever be the same, now that you know!

I so testify,

Amen.
