Re: WITNESSES CRASHES AND BURNS!
It's not in Las Vegas any longer, unless you book a private watch party for $149.00. No thanks. I will have wait until it comes out in a downloadable version, I guess, if I still want to watch it by then. DCP's stupid move in publishing Dr. Bokovoy's 9yr old article without approval made me lose steam for DCP's propaganda "theatrical film" (preferably said while wearing a monicle).

This theatrical film had better conform to my high standards ...

Leave it to Interpreter to overshadow their own work. Everyone has moved on to Bayes and Bokovoy, baby!

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday: https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Witne ... box-office
Jul 2, 2021 - $13,703 33
Jul 3, 2021 - $14,574 33
Jul 4, 2021 - $2,013 33
Jul 5, 2021 - $23,076 33
Total: $691,911
I'm making a prediction that the Witnesses will bring in around $850,000 at the box office. Far short of the estimated $2,000,000.00 the film needs to break even and turn a profit. I guess DCP learned a valuable lesson that members and non-members alike do not want to watch a shallow piece of propaganda.
As expected, the film has turned out to be a very public financial and critical failure for DCP and The Interpreter. What was most disappointing to me was that DCP could have used the film to portrait a historically honest and thought provoking film about God, religion and the power of conviction.
Well, the good news is that DCP finally has time to finish those two books he promised BYU in 2014 while on a paid sabbatical.

Re: WITNESSES CRASHES AND BURNS!
Still no professional reviews other than the initial "Rotten" by that blogger.
Still no financial transparency.
Could $1 million of donations have been put to better use in the cause of telling people an accurate history of the 11 family and close friends Joseph used to bolster his claims of gold plates? Perhaps simply making the documentary and snippets elements would have been far more cost effective and useful. As the blogger mentions in his review..."For members, there’s nothing new in the movie’s overview of the church’s early history." and..."Non-members will likely get stuck on how director Mark Goodman shows details of that history that, from an outside perspective, seem a little ludicrous."
I'd be interested in understanding what would constitute "success" for Interpreter with this film. Financial return? Audience numbers? Keeping a certain number of people in the faith? Convert Baptisms? What? If they haven't set a measure of success from the outset, then that's a pretty negligent way to approach the spending of $1 million of donations on an undertaking of this nature. Or was this simply an Interpreter marketing exercise, an attempt to get "one up" on the Maxwell Institute and using other peoples money to continue the seething personal feud that obviously continues to boil barely beneath the surface for one individual...

Re: WITNESSES CRASHES AND BURNS!
The Maxwell Institute's rejection of hardcore apologetics caused it to miss out on big-time cinema and Kwaku El's directorial debut in the summer hit of 2121, John Dehlin at the OK Corral and its sequel Tora Tora Tora on John Dehlin. This was also a loss for Hollywood and its philosophies of men.

Dr. Peterson stated rather plainly that his definition of "success" was the movie making back all the money that went into producing it, plus enough left over to make a new film.IHAQ wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 7:45 am

It seems clear at this point that "Witnesses" is a rather spectacular act of priestcraft. The whole thing was set up to get Latter-day Saints to sink their hard-earned money into yet more Mopologetic projects, and to help glorify Daniel C. Peterson and his hobbies.
