Since we are considering how to handle all the "trolling/spamming/personal insults" that our "new members" are forcing us to make decisions about, I wonder what this community ought to do, if anything, about posts like this one?

Given the several posts that have been very recently posted by "them", I can only think of two possible options.

1. You have serious struggles with reading comprehension.
2. Your vision has been so badly affected by you attachments here, that you are almost completely blind at this point.

I'm fairly confident it's #2.

I have them on ignore, but I read enough to conclude that their aim here was disruption for disruption’s sake. Based on what I’ve seen, I’d be very inclined to disbelieve any after the fact rationalization of their behavior. Using the ignore function is an effective method of self help that doesn’t involve the breaking of any rules.

I'm not trolling you, nor have I spammed the board (you'll do much better in conversations if you learn the definition of the words you choose). I'm pointing out your obvious hypocrisy. If you're insulted by that, maybe take some time to reflect why.

I disagree that your intentions are benign, here or at the other board. You're not fooling anyone about how you ended up here, and I've mentioned this before:

As long as we're celebrating Festivus early, here's something else that I believe contributes to the current posting environment:

Comments about the motives of people participating in threads has always been FAIR game.

Here is the civility rule for Paradise:

No blatant or otherwise obvious personal attacks allowed. This includes personal attacks against a person's family members.

Questioning or commenting on someone's motives for participating in a substantive conversation is always a derail from the substantive topic. It changes the topic from whatever the opening post of the thread is to the person whose participation in the thread is being questioned. It encourages deflection and distraction from the substantive discussion -- a cheap rhetorical move grounded in the ad hominem fallacy. And it nearly always constitutes a personal attack. So, here we have a direct contradiction between what the rule says and how it is actually enforced. To avoid sending mixed messages to folks who post, the rules should be enforced in a manner that reinforces what the rules say.

If you believe that the above post violates Board Rules then the appropriate action is to take is to use the report button.

That, in fact, is what the new members should have done instead of spamming the crap out of this board.

Which leads me back to the need to get up a functional mod team here whose job it is to, in part, handle reports.

It's that simple. It's always been that simple. The only reason it's not simple right now is because we don't have a functional mod team in place.
