The difference between Posters looking for dialog and trollers is a little like the difference between DNA and RNA. RNA is always looking for DNA to hijack, just like trollers need the dialog of posters to make themselves heard. Their existence is defined by opposition. Troll irritation is a mosquito bite: Scratching it just makes it worse.

In the meantime, before we recruit more moderators--and no one is allowed to nominate anyone; the person him or herself must volunteer--I need to know three things:

1. If Atlanticmike and Cultellus's posts toward others are qualitatively different from everyone else's posts toward Ajax18, and
2. If there's a difference between calling us out on what they perceive to be our negative behavior vs. mere trolling, and whether & how we can know on which side of the line our two new posters fall, and
3. If the former, whether there's a kernel or more of truth in any of what they've been saying.

1. M and Cs posts do not differ qualitatively from some posts that have been directed to Sub and Ajax. Permission to speak freely as to why?

2. Calling out bad behavior is qualitatively different than what M and C are doing — derailing multiple threads for the sole purpose of disrupting conversations is trolling. If their internet in calling folks here to repentance were the improvement of the board, It could be justifiable. But it’s clear their internet is malicious — pure trolling.

3. Of course there is a kernel in truth in what they say. Certain people here violate the civility rules and the derail rules. And almost no one (including me) follows the swearing rule. Again, permission to speak freely?

I don't know. It depends on whether he was commenting on the way her posts sound vs. whether he was insinuating that that's what she herself must be.

Shades you don't know? Why haven't you informed yourself? The entire Paradise forum has turned to crap and you haven't bothered to examine it?

No one is allowed to nominate anyone? Since when? Historically, admin puts out a call for mods in Terrestrial forum and discussion (including nominations) follows. Is this a new hoop you expect us to jump through?

If you don't want to put out a call for mods, then why not moderate it yourself according to the rules already in place, including being responsive to reports before entire threads and forums reach critical mass?

It's no skin off my nose if you don't want to create a mod team only please don't put conditionals in front of us and expect us to meet them when you aren't holding up your end of the admin:community relationship here to begin with.

World's gone crazy. One new kid is running around replacing words with dots. The other thinks he can force Lem into doing... something. Texas guv sends out an SOS to out of state Docs and Nurses to come bail out his state while he prohibits mask or vaccine mandates. Arkansas had to throw away 10s of thousands of expired vaccine doses and has single digits in open ICU beds for the entire state. The West is on fire and the IPCC came out with its Sixth Assessment Report today. It's short but sweet: we're screwed. I read a long thread on FreeRepublic by a very nice woman. She and her husband had COVID and wanted to know the dosage for Ivermectin or whatever the hell its called. After over 500 entries of people mostly telling her not to go to the hospital and telling her to take every quack remedy under the sun, we learned that she and her husband both died.

Can a full moon last for weeks? Months? Years?
