Fair enough. Just don't ask other countries to pay for it. Attending the Australian open is no longer on the bucket list for most of us. I wouldn't be surprised if the tour just cancelled that Grand Slam.

Beyond that all I can chalk our differences up to is that I value quality of life much more than I do avoiding death.

And in New Zealand, they’re judging ‘quality of life’ to include not getting sick or killing off their vulnerable populations. They’re presupposing that quality of life is about much more than a bunch of money.

What Ajax is missing is this is New Zealand's first major lock-down in a year. Their strategy is eradication, which means they don't let case numbers grow before bringing in restrictions. This factor as well as having no land borders results in much less time their population spends in restrictions then other areas like the US. 3 days is a short time.

I would add the Maritime provinces in Canada have done a similar strategy with similar results.

Their quarantines were so restrictive in New Zealand and Australia that many tour level players just skipped the tournament. Many other businesses are going to be hurt in similar ways in these countries. These draconian lockdowns are not without a cost and I don't think quantitative easing and taxing the rich will keep food on on their tables forever.

Australia and New Zealand are two separate countries. The Australia Open has nothing to do with COVID policies in New Zealand. Surely you understand that.

I believe Taiwan adopted a similar strategy, although I haven't looked at its numbers in months.
