Re: Holland's second "scolding" at BYU
Has this been brought up yet at Sic et Non?
Seems like this is just the kind of thing we need to get some life back into that place.

We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Peterson will kill any life in any discussion at Sickest Non by banning anyone who dares bring up anything other than praise for the brethren. He is soooooo predictably ***B.O.R.I.N.G.***

Ha, well, I looked it up myself, and the latest post at SeN is about this very talk.
Sort of.
DCP says how great it is but then moves on to his laundry list of old papers at Interpreter.
Neither he nor Kiwi appear willing to defend Holland or to explain what they agree with or why. Rather, they're getting "textual mirror" on Dave6.
Defund the Police is making comments uncontested, aside from tangent sarcasm from Kiwi.
It appears as if the apologists would love more than anything to rub salt into the wounds of liberal believers, but are concerned about the optics of doing so with any detail.

Re: Holland's second "scolding" at BYU
This is one time when I think Peggy fletcher stack is being too accommodating regarding LDS speeches. Here is how she described the “musket” analogy, with a partial quote:
Here is the actual ‘musket’ quote from Holland’s speech:
“Intellectual ‘muskets’ “ ?BYU faculty and staff should take up their intellectual “muskets” to defend The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, especially “the doctrine of the family and...marriage as the union of a man and a woman,”…

Here is the actual ‘musket’ quote from Holland’s speech:
…The dual role of builder and defender is unique and ongoing. I am grateful we have scholars today who can handle, as it were, both trowels and muskets.”[10]
Then Elder Oaks said challengingly, “I would like to hear a little more musket fire from this temple of learning.”[11] He said this in a way that could have applied to a host of topics in various departments, but the one he specifically mentioned was the doctrine of the family and defending marriage as the union of a man and a woman…

Very well said, Dr. Robbers. DCP clearly approves of Holland’s talk, and yet he also claimed to “agree” with Smoot’s recent FAIR presentation. But the main points at the heart of each talk couldn’t be further away from each other.Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 12:58 amHa, well, I looked it up myself, and the latest post at SeN is about this very talk.

Smoot will see the writing on the wall. He will be joining us eventually...Doctor Scratch wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 2:25 amVery well said, Dr. Robbers. This is another instance where if you look at the number of people in the world who are gay compared to the number of people who are members of the church it's clear that being gay plays a bigger role in God's plan for his children than baptism.
The number of gay individuals is more than an order of magnitude greater.

Hear you on this. But I think if pressed, both would hold the line and disagree, arguing that the talks were compatible, key points being (a) love and compassion necessary, and (b) obedience to God’s law as revealed by living prophets is also necessary.Doctor Scratch wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 2:25 amVery well said, Dr. Robbers. I’m actually concerned some DezNat types will go from larping to physically attacking LGTBQ types. How can they not take Holland’s talk as a wink and a nod?
