THIS. In 2:35 minutes, Brian William simply nails it. Wow. He really does. And yes, it did hit me hard.
Remembering Rolling Stones Legendary Drummer Charlie Watts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzxGHkhVJfM
I read or heard earlier today, that Charlie never missed a show since 1964. As the Stones finish their upcoming No Filter tour dates in the U.S., he'll be missed at every single one of them.
After the 13 dates are fulfilled, I stand by what I wrote in the OP. I think they need to be done.

I thought this was good,

I feel more touched by Charlie passing than I thought I would. Then my teenage years are all touched by the appearance of the Stones on the music scene. Glad you got to see and hear them Jersey Girl.

Re: RIP Charlie Watts
I just watched the video you linked. I knew everything that was in the video including that he collected cars but I did NOT know that he couldn't drive or that he collected suits that matched the period of his cars! He wore bespoke suits, too. You know, I stated above that I'd heard Charlie Watts hadn't missed a show since 1964 but your video corrects that going back to 1963. Who does that?huckelberry wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 12:14 amI thought this was good,

The Stones (and I think Keith Richards said this in an interview or his book) shop lifted to pay Charlie in the beginning so they could spirit him away from Blues Incorporated. Charlie was already an in-demand professional musician when they met each other. I'll have to look in Keith's book Life since I have it.
If you ever want to read something totally raw and honest, I recommend it. I only read part way through it myself. He addresses his drug addiction and getting clean in a way I cannot describe. Keith, by the way, is VERY well read. All of them have knowledge and talent beyond the work they do on stage as the Stones. Keith Richards who met Jagger in Primary school, was an academic washout and when he was expelled from school, he chose art college instead while Jagger went to the London School of Economics. He's now the CEO of the Stones and has been so for many years. Ronnie Wood is an amazing portrait artist. I posted some examples of his work on the old now broken board and you can find his work online. Look at Charlie's drawings. Who does that? He raised Arabian horses. Again, none of these men are run of the mill rock stars.
Their history as individuals and as a band is simply fascinating. Some of them came from very humble beginnings while Jagger came from a posh family. These are amazingly talented men, not just the ruffian type bad boys we all assumed they were in the beginning.
I don't know what most folks think about the Stones. All I can say is they are highly skilled musicians, each bringing their own flavor to the music and all you need to do is listen to the instrumental versions to know that what I say is true.
This hit me harder than I imagined. Of course anyone knew that this could happen given their advanced age but I spent all yesterday in and out of tears. It's just a whole lot of reasons. As you say our teenage years, the passing of the greats, the thought that the Stones will never be whole again, what his family and band mates are going through. I imagine that the Stones knew this was coming so they announced his replacement first. But even so, I can't begin to imagine what a gut punch this is for them in losing one of their own.
These men literally grew up together. I can't even imagine what this is like for them.
As for me, I guess I got the gut punch, too. And I didn't even know the man. I will never forget the clarity of that sound system in 2019. Never! It was like taking in crack through my ears.

Re: RIP Charlie Watts
You know, I was going to do this earlier and since I mentioned it in my above post to huck, here comes an example of the Stones without vocals. Now, you can still hear Jagger very low in the back ground.
But listen.
Honky Tonk Women Instrumental Stereo Mix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKl515jn5JQ
This here is like my favorite thing in all of Stones world. It's not instrumental but just LISTEN to Keith start the song, Charlie and Bill Wyman come in and then LISTEN to the high notes just falling down like rain drops on the beat.
With Ronnie Wood:

The original with Mick Taylor as I recall:
Beast Of Burden by The Rolling Stones

I better stop right there. I'll be posting every version of Beast that I can get my hands on including the symphonic versions.

Charlie discusses his drumming, his beginnings, philosophies, lack of formal training, differing drum styles--jazz vs. rock using the same song as an example...video is 9:27 minutes.

Re: RIP Charlie Watts
Discusses his warm ups before taking the stage, his drum kit, which songs he loves to accompany, differences between drumming jazz v. rock, tours his drum kit and how he uses it, engineer preferences, pieces that he's had for decades...just a lot. 8:14 minutes.
I think MeDot would really like this one if he hasn't already seen it.

I just love them so much. The Stones lost something SO good.
