Amen. Another profound sermon delivered.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 6:42 pmI don't think my desire or recommendation of what I take to be the fundamental nature of reality is going to impact anyone else's views one way or the other, nor do I think it is necessary that they do. What is is, regardless of our opinions on the matter. We can fight about what is, but that is madness. If I am convinced of one thing, it is that fighting about the nature of reality is insanity. Since we are utterly incapable of understanding reality, we are better served by treating each other with kindness because, whether we like it or not, we are all in the same predicament.Chap wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:03 pmWould you suggest that anybody else would do well to follow your example? Or is it just like a particular taste in pizza toppings - you think pineapple has to be the starting point for any decent pizza, while I cannot manage without some goat's cheese in there somewhere, and can't see why anyone would want pineapple?

Do you by chance have some site or online resource you could ref for this? It’s an interesting thought that I’m not sure what it’s supposed to mean. My wife and I occasionally joke that ‘there’s literal nothing at a fundamental level, but 1’s and 0’s. Like, literally.’ We’ve kind of come to the conclusion that the universe is mathematical at its core, with immaterial positive and negative forces acting as the basic substrate of existence, but I’m not sure what that means if I’m being honest. It does imply design, but I don’t know why that’d be the case.

I don’t have a single good go-to online resource for this, DocCam. My views come from reading Greek philosophy, mostly Platonic stuff, scholarship on mysticism and classical theism, and here and there about Indian theology. I am also a huge fan of Alan Watts and Eckhart Tolle. Alford Huxley’s The Perennial Philosophy is another favorite. Phillip K. Dick’s VALIS influenced my views. Recently, David Bentley Hart’s The Experience of God made a strong impression on me.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 10:41 pmDo you by chance have some site or online resource you could ref for this? I have really enjoyed the Secret History of Western Esotericism podcast with Earle Fontainelle. If you want a great little history of the influence of Plato on Western religion, SHWEP is great!

I’d like to talk about Ekhart Tolle. What is the temperature here for me starting a thread about that subject?

That would be a great alternative to a lot of what happens in the Spirit Paradise forum.

Shulem, no offense to you personally but the site to which you linked is full of new age BS.Shulem wrote:

We know records are kept because at one long stretch of time hardly anyone was being second anointed and the PSRdrumdude wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 1:10 amDo you think there's any paperwork given to the member after their second anointing? The LDS church loves paperwork (patriarchal blessing, baptism record, priesthood record, temple recommend, etc.)
Or is it a completely paperless transaction, so that members could never leak out the documents?
Told the brethren to get those numbers up!

It's ironic that Nibley didn't live long enough to learn that the nose of Anubis had been scraped off the lead plate and that there was some kind of coverup to that effect with the printing plate in Nauvoo. When I first made that discovery, I realized that things would never be the same again. It was a game changer and goes to show that Smith was willing to corrupt and reinterpret anything to make something fit his revelation.
