What religious groups were congregating in the streets that weren't headed inside a house of worship or leaving one, Mr. Whataboutism?
I'm on your butt now, buddy. Come up with an accurate answer.

Those protesting the lockdowns did so outside and with a mask no different than BLM, yet their protest was shutdown by Gretchen Whitmer due to COVID concerns. A week later she was out marching and breaking her own social distancing guidelines.

I'm afraid you'll have to do better than that. We're not talking about BLM. We're not talking about Whitmer.ajax18 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 12:37 amThose protesting the lockdowns did so outside and with a mask no different than BLM, yet their protest was shutdown by Gretchen Whitmer due to COVID concerns. Shades, the difference between COVID and pork is that if everyone consents to meet up in one place and eat bad pork, then the consequences are their own, regardless of how much they mingle with the folks outside of that room afterwards. That’s not the case with a communicable virus that might hitch a ride through you and then infect vulnerable people that you come into contact with but who otherwise chose not to be part of your congregation’s Petri dish experiment.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 8:40 pmOnly if you put the unwilling at risk. If everyone in proposed peaceful assembly X knows the risks and choose to participate anyway, I don't think any local government has the power to overturn a constitutional right--especially since the Constitution is the supreme law of the land (i.e., taking precedence over any state government). Some Schmo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 3:27 pmAre you unaware of the concept of airborne communicable diseases? You can literally kill someone by breathing on them... today. Doesn't that move you at all? Doesn't that change your idea of your constitutional rights?
Of course you shouldn't. But I'm not cool with the idea of the government telling me I can't eat pork. If a right can be taken away, it isn't a right. You also have the right to test the limits of gravity, at your own peril. You have the right to refuse wearing a seatbelt. You can avoid fiber and never exercise. The question is whether or not you should.
May I test these in conjunction with a peaceful assembly of people who also know, and are willing to take, the attendant risks?I would only ask that you test these things, like gravity and COVID, by yourself, and not driving a busload of people with you over the cliff you're eyeing.
Is it possible to be daft about Constitutional rights? It's really quite remarkable how daft people are about this virus.
Ok, I think I might see your point with limiting the size, spacing, wearing a mask. But let me ask you this first, would you be ok with how we conduct our LDS sacrament meetings now. I'm not sure if your familiar with it. We've divided the ward into three. We wash with hand sanitizer before passing the bread and water. We sit rows apart. We don't sing hymns but play the piano or a recording. Sadly it's only an hour which means my kids miss nursery and primary which I'm not very happy about.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 12:49 amI'm afraid you'll have to do better than that. What was happening in the religious community in NYC during the very first surges?
You still have to pay for people's heart surgeries, cholesterol meds, etc. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to ban red meat just because of the effect of cow farts on global warming. This insane economy killing global warming agenda might produce as many results as these stupid hypocritical lockdowns have helped stop the spread of Covid.Shades, the difference between COVID and pork is that if everyone consents to meet up in one place and eat bad pork, then the consequences are their own
I personally wouldn't be comfortable in any house of worship right now.ajax18 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 1:18 amOk, I think I might see your point with limiting the size, spacing, wearing a mask. State mandates, I would assume. In our state, for example, houses of worship are still permitted to operate with groups of 10 excluding staff. Casinos are closed. Bars appear to be closed unless they have a restaurant license in which case they can do curbside like all of our restaurants can under Level Red.Beyond that you'll need to answer my original point on why is it legal in San Diego to go to a strip club but not Church. And the promotion of the BLM "mostly" peaceful protests during this pandemic will always be a major point of hypocrisy in my view whenever we talk about criminalizing things people do that might spread Covid.
What is wrong with your memory? You and I have had exchanges where the lockdowns were at issue where I specifically stated that the purpose of the lockdowns were to hold the spread at bay and reducing the burden on hospital until the vaccines are distributed and administered. And if you're really into the science of this, you need to realize that these lockdowns are never going to eradicate Covid when it has already been deeply seeded. The most they can do is keep the ICU from being overrun. This comes at such an enormous economic cost that it wouldn't be very hard for me to find cases where decisions have been made against a minority of individual lives in favor of the collective standard of living in past for other issues. We can't be locking down every year. Your blue state restrictions haven't made you any better off than we are in red states. Europe's restrictions have done little more than delay the inevitable. Australia will have to rejoin the world as well if there lockdowns don't destroy their country first. And when they do rejoin the world a vaccine isn't likely to make much difference. They still might see a 0.04% casualty rate just as we have. I know this. Your leaders in the Democrat party know this and have known it from the beginning. So one must ask, what are they really doing other than trying to use this crisis to capitalize off your fears and seize more power. If they were really concerned about helping people the stimulus bill would have passed with or without their stipulations that would move the US into a more socialist economy. But what's more important to them? It's not you or the people they've put out of a job through their restrictions.
They were intended to SLOW the spread of COVID, not stop it. What covid tracker are you following?ajax18 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 1:23 amYou still have to pay for people's heart surgeries, cholesterol meds, etc. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to ban red meat just because of the effect of cow farts on global warming. Prior to the election, folks like ajax told us that the pandemic was being promoted in order to oust Trump, and after the election that the virus would simply disappear.Jersey Girl wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 1:38 amYour assertion that so-called blue state leaders are using the crisis to generate fear in a bid for more power makes NO logical sense at all. Power over what? A failing economy? The high unemployment rates? Food insecurity? Stress burdens on health care workers?
canpakes wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 2:58 amWeeks after the election, we see continually increasing infection rates across most states and the danger of ICUs in many places becoming overrun with patients, leaving ajax to need to invent a new reason for the continued existence of coronavirus. I’m curious to see what the new conspiracy will be.
