Trooper Hits Black Motorist 18 Times With A Flashlight, Calling It 'Pain Compliance'

MONROE, La. — Graphic body camera video kept secret for more than two years shows a Louisiana State Police trooper pummeling a Black motorist 18 times with a flashlight — an attack the trooper defended as "pain compliance."

"I'm not resisting! I'm not resisting!" Aaron Larry Bowman can be heard screaming between blows on the footage obtained by The Associated Press. The May 2019 beating following a traffic stop left him with a broken jaw, three broken ribs, a broken wrist and a gash to his head that required six staples to close.

Bowman's encounter near his Monroe home came less than three weeks after troopers from the same embattled agency punched, stunned and dragged another Black motorist, Ronald Greene, before he died in police custody on a rural roadside in northeast Louisiana. Video of Greene's death similarly remained under wraps before AP obtained and published it earlier this year.

In other news, when a black cop shoots a white terrorist in the act of a crime at our Capitol, the White Nationalists among us demand the identity of the cop be released to the public so they can enact swift justice. Blue lives matter.... so long as they're killing minorities.

Man oh man. I posted a response to Lee earlier this morning that pointed out that abusing the term "white privilege" was not limited to people on the right. This literally has nothing to do with white privilege. A white guy being a belligerent, rude SOB to a black reporter is not an example of white privilege. A white guy assaulting a black guy has nothing to do with white privilege.

Privilege is a very useful concept when discussing structural racism and why it persists. It has nothing to do with white people behaving badly toward a black person. It is about white people being blind to disadvantages the system imposes on people of other races because the the world they experience looks "normal" to them.

This is outrage porn, pure and simple.

From that clip, it isn't clear exactly what the white guy's beef is, other than he doesn't think the media's reporting of the hurricane is accurate. Maybe there will be a follow up that explains the issue.

Maybe the guy was outraged by the damage the storm caused and blamed the weatherman or the reporter for somehow having something to do with causing the storm. I remember reading some time ago about outraged farmers somewhere in New England who attacked a television station because its meteorologist accurately predicted and warned about a bad storm that did severe damage to their crops and property, as if they blamed the forecaster for actually causing the storm, rather than just forecasting it.

I disagree. I think there has to be a mindset that exists in those who feel like they can just go up to a black person the way this guy did without any repercussions. A white guy in Mississippi apparently felt it was not only his privilege, but apparently his duty, to put that man in his place. If the tables were turned and it was a Black Panther intimidating a white journalist, we'd never hear the end of it over at FOX.

There was no way for him to know if the reporter was reporting accurately. He drove by and saw a black man with a microphone and a camera and it triggered him to take action. The way he charged up in his face with his fist speaks volumes.

Yeah; I acknowledge that that is probably the more likely explanation of the man's behavior.
