The Real Reason Behind the Republicans' Push for Bogus Audits

Post by Gunnar »

Republican Adam Kinzinger, one of the few honest Republicans left in Congress, got it exactly right: Republican Adam Kinzinger Says GOP Audits 'About Being Too Scared' to Admit Trump Lost
Representative Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican, took aim at ongoing GOP-backed efforts to audit and investigate the 2020 election results, saying members of his political party are "to[sic] scared" to admit former President Donald Trump lost.

Representative Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican, took aim at ongoing GOP-backed efforts to audit and investigate the 2020 election results, saying members of his political party are "to scared" to admit former President Donald Trump lost.

Arizona Republicans have conducted a widely mocked and highly controversial audit, and Pennsylvania Republicans have pushed forward with a new review of the November election results. Meanwhile, GOP lawmakers in other states are moving ahead similar efforts driven by Trump's and his allies' discredited claims that the presidential election was "rigged" in favor of President Joe Biden.

During a Friday interview with right-wing news channel Newsmax, GOP Representative Pete Sessions of Texas defended the investigations related to the 2020 election. Kinzinger on Saturday retweeted the interview, which was captioned: "Continuing to investigate the nation's 2020 elections isn't about overturning their results, but to determine what could have caused variances in the results, Rep. Pete Sessions said Friday on Newsmax."

Kinzinger, a staunch Trump critic, rewrote the tweet's caption to align with his perspective.

"Let me take a shot at it... 'it's not about overturning the election, it's about being too scared to tell the truth to the base that Trump lost and is the first incumbent president to lose reelection in 30 years,'" the Illinois Republican remarked.
What a bunch of abject dishonest and/or corrupt cowards!

The Democrats took advantage of COVID to manipulate voting laws and regulations to the point that a geriatric barely coherent house plant managed to get more votes than the annointed and charismatic Barack Obama himself in 2008. And he accomplished all this while barely leaving his basement much less taking any nonscripted questions. Republican leadership in Georgia should be primaried out for allowing this to happen instead of cleaning out the voter rolls like DeSantis did in Florida.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

So, as there is no evidence of voter fraud in GA, what you’re saying, Eeyore, is that you think GA should have purged legible Democrats from the voter rolls.

Don't you mean eligible Democrats? And yes! Republicans hardly even try to make a secret of the fact that their aim is to purge as many eligible Democrats from the rolls as possible and otherwise make it difficult as possible for non-Republicans to vote. Some Republican majority legislatures have gone so far as to blatantly advocate or pass laws that make it legal for the state legislature to overturn the majority will of the voters if they don't like the result. They obviously are trying to rig the system so that only eligible Republicans can be elected, no matter what the majority of the voters want. Some of them hardly even try to hide that fact!

Thanks. Yes, eligible Democrats.

North Carolina Republicans once funded a study on voter habits. And upon learning that black voters voted in certain ways and times, the Republican legislature created a law making it difficult for them to vote. This was so obviously racist at its core that a federal judge struck it down.

Given the success of the hard right conservatives in recent years in filling the federal courts with ultra conservative and often unqualified judges, while blocking the appointment of even mildly moderate judges, I have to wonder if being obviously racist would be still be enough to result in a law being struck down by most currently sitting judges.

It's cult behavior. The cult comes up with a lie, and then the cult members frantically scramble to make it appear true. Cult members spinning to make the lie appear true is extremely important to keep the lie "plausible." Why would so many cult members be doing all this if it wasn't true? Circular logic is their friend.

Most GOP pols have no interest in reality (mostly because reality is extremely inconvenient to their asshole agenda). It's all about the lies and keeping their base angry and misinformed. I'm pretty sure they view their job description as:

Roles and Responsibilities:
- get re-elected, no matter what laws, morals and ethics need to be broken in the process

And that's it.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.
