Dear Dr. Shades :-) Board Business
Re: Dear Dr. Shades :-) Board Business
Everyone is welcome. Every opinion is welcome.* Therefore, do not "de-invite" anyone or suggest that they go elsewhere.

You are bringing in LDS politics and trying to beat us about the head with it. Even MD&D has no desire to have right-wing politics pushed on that board.Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 11:23 pmLet's have a positive place for posters who still believe in God and want to discuss religion without being bombarded by left wing lunatics. If you don't like that, guess what, I don't care.

Re: Dear Dr. Shades :-) Board Business
I believe in God and have had a number of interesting discussions about religion on this board. It is a pretty good place to do that very thing. Even that weird thread , all of the Bible, had some good discussions buried within it. They were impossible to find again after another fifty pages unfortunately. It helps to think of something to contribute instead of just complaining that some people do not share your preferred political views.Moksha wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 4:02 amYou are bringing in LDS politics and trying to beat us about the head with it. Hi Mike, what is it about the board rules that confuses you?Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:50 pmSince the board is called Discussing Mormonism, is there any way we could get a forum to talk about Mormonism and other religions without having posters like Lem, Doc cam and a handful of others crapping all over other people's religious beliefs? You know, a place that is actually positive and uplifting.

Ideally, the Celestial forum should represent such a place.Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:50 pmSince the board is called Discussing Mormonism, is there any way we could get a forum to talk about Mormonism and other religions without having posters like Lem, Doc cam and a handful of others crapping all over other people's religious beliefs? I understand your goal to have a board that's completely open and anyone's idea can be challenged. I admire you for that, I do. But! Maybe it's my competitive nature or maybe i don't understand your goal, but I think having one forum that's moderated like MD&D would boost membership numbers here. A place some of the people at MD&D can discuss Mormon topics and feel safe, so yes, a safe space. I honestly think if you could figure out a way to design a forum like that, a positive Mormon/religion forum you could draw posters from MD&D. Like I said, maybe you're not interested in that, I don't know. But what I do know, is there's "scholars" over at MD&D that are pro Mormon and there's "scholars" here that are critical of Mormonism. I think a "snowflake" forum could bring the two together even if it is just talking about Mormonism in a positive light. If it doesn't work, scrap it.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 1:35 amAtlanticmike:
Xenophon, in effect, channeled me when he made his responses to you. Everything he said is 100% on the money. But to reiterate:
- The Celestial Forum is exactly what you want. Post there and see.
- BE the change you want to see at DiscussMormonism.com. If you aren't seeing the threads you want to see, start them yourself instead of complaining that they don't exist.
One other thing, I know absolutely nothing about moderating a forum or how much time it takes. But why don't you charge people to use the board? Will people not pay to play? I would pay $50 a year. I would think most people would pay at least $10. No?

So I just finished driving and had an idea. Why not have a fund raiser for moderators? If you give me an address or PO box I'll snail mail you $50. No strings, if you ban me later, my loss.

Like we have said, Celestial forum. Even the posters of at MD&D know about it and know they are safe discussing religion there. It is not all agreement and testimony, but it is always civil, always thoughtful, and scholarly, and always interesting to read. Start posting some ideas there and lets talk about them.Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 10:55 amI understand your goal to have a board that's completely open and anyone's idea can be challenged. We don't give a flying flip about numbers here. The intent is not to get people "converted" over to this board, it is to have as open discussion as possible. And the MORE this board has opened the MORE FAIR and MD&D and Sic et Non have CLOSED and become heavy handed with moderating ANY kind of actual discussion. I find that utterly fascinating. Mormonism a missionary religion to proclaim the truth, yet stops discussion almost in toto. Lol.....
Start posting in the Celestial and see if it is the "safe" place you are hoping for. It isn't Kumbiyah forum however.

Why do you think funds are needed for moderators?Atlanticmike wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 11:27 amSo I just finished driving and had an idea. Why not have a fund raiser for moderators? If you give me an address or PO box I'll snail mail you $50. No strings, if you ban me later, my loss.
