You do realize it's technically possible for the LDS church to keep a log of IP addresses associated with members who log in to LDS websites? It's not just technically possible, it's trivial. It's also trivial to share that information with the Strengthening the Church Members Committee.Sledge wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 11:59 pmI just don’t like fear mongering about insignificant things like public IP addresses. So you think because only when IP addresses are combined with other information is there a risk, this means that allowing an untrustworthy person access to IP addresses is no risk?
Keep digging that hole for yourself.

No more than your online username, a linguistic idiosyncrasy, or any other random data point.Lem wrote: So you think because only when IP addresses are combined with other information is there a risk, this means that allowing an untrustworthy person access to IP addresses is no risk?

That would provide no useful information except a bunch of numbers.drumdude wrote: You do realize it's technically possible for the LDS church to keep a log of IP addresses associated with members who log in to LDS websites? Hey Sledge
I must admit, it isn't looking very good for you but just so you know, Shades and Shades alone will be making these mod decisions (And I for one am comforted by that fact)
Anyway, I'm not sure how to ask you this, so I'll just ask: Since you probably don't really need those buttons anymore, can I have one?

I’m not sure why proving that IP addresses are meaningless data points make it “not look good” for me.ceeboo wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:47 amHey Sledge

My apologies, I wasn't talking about IP addresses or data points - I was talking about Shades those people who told you "no" about being a mod.
But what about the button?

So the guy who assures everyone that IP addresses are "meaningless data points," unless of course they are combined with other information, wants access, "for just 90 days!" to everyone's IP addresses.Sledge wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:52 amI’m not sure why proving that IP addresses are meaningless data points make it “not look good” for me.ceeboo wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:47 amHey Sledge

Oh, and he's very sorry he said Shades' board is home to anti-Mormon bigots. I would assume he's also sorry he called our board "a festering cesspool," a phrase, coincidentally, that is common among mopologists. He did say that when he likened Shade's site to Stormfront, he was actually referring to Shades' OTHER site, so that makes it okay.
All of this just keeps adding up to more and more concerns about why this guy wants so desperately to just be granted access to the highest levels of our board, as he says,'just for a trial period!'
