I had the birds and bees talk with my daughter when she was seven (I wasn't planning to until she was a little older, but she asked about it).
This idea of a sudden talk in which, at last, the secret of human reproduction is revealed (after never previously having been hinted at?), puzzles me deeply. Avoiding specific in real life information as far as possible, I can say that I have a number of children, including both genders, and the fact that and ways by which animals make new animals was just one of those things that occur in conversation from time to time, and were talked about as far as the child was interested and able to understand. The aim (if there ever was an aim) in such conversations was to ensure that by the time such things began to matter to the child in any personal way, they knew about them - like they basically knew about how airplanes fly, how computers work, how people die, what working to earn a living means, where the earth is, and so on. This is not special secret knowledge.
Lest anyone should think that children need to be shielded from this very speshul scary sex stuff, may I remand you that for most of our existence as human beings we walked around naked and people did not have separate bedrooms to which they could retire either to make babies or bring them into the world? If kids couldn't cope with what was in front of them, the human race would have died out long ago.
But here we all are.

Is this a reference to my specific story or the subject of talking to your kids about sex generally?
I have little doubt the subject had come up before, but I didn't go into details until she asked me specific questions about it. I wasn't trying to shield her, but I also wasn't going to force that subject before she was curious.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

OK, so what's puzzling you about the story?
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.
It's just that I think it is preferable to make sure that the topic of how animals make more animals (hence how people make more people) just gets covered piecemeal and when occasion arises throughout childhood, rather than being the kind of major event implied by the term 'the birds and bees talk', an event that a parent might decide to initiate at one moment rather than another.
That way you can ensure the child learns bit by bit all they can understand at any given age, and that they accept it as a natural feature of being human that does not seem in any way 'gross'.
But in any case, from what I can see of your character online, I am sure your daughter's trust in her Dad is deep enough to ensure that any negative feelings passed very quickly.

I talked to my girls about sex, menstrual cycles, birth control and regulating cycles, etc. I had my then gf now wife facilitate access to bc and condoms for them if they felt like they needed it. I also talked about the social aspects of sex, so they understood some of the follow-on effects ref interpersonal dynamics, potential for gossip, pair bonding, etc. We also talked about masturbation mainly because I didn’t want them to feel bad or guilty for it.
They’re now 26 and 23 years-old respectively, and as far as I’m aware there haven’t been any abortions or diseases. I’m not really sure why people don’t equip their offspring with the tools to navigate a tricky issue, but here we are. And society ends up shouldering the more expensive alternatives when the population is resource-poor.
My best friend gave birth to twins with eggs and sperm from donors. She let them know at an early age what the situation was, and the girls know their biological (egg donor) mother. So they grew up with a pretty good idea of how reproduction worked.
I lived one floor below their apartment, and growing up we were very close. When they were 4 years old, I heard one of the girls have a conversation with a friend:
"Is [MeDotOrg} your dad"?
"Well, he's like a Dad...except there was no sperm involved."

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Yep, Satan is suing to save Texas from the Christians.
Man, we live in the most interesting timeline.
