On your mission, if you knocked on a door and a fellow believer in Christ answered (christian), did you turn and walk away?
No.

If not, why? I'll tell you why. Because as far as we are concerned, our church is the only church on Earth that has the authority to baptize people and start them on the correct path to live again with our heavey father. According to our doctrine, Christianits aren't going to be viewed any different than Muslim during the resurrection and judgement.
It’s true that I viewed our missionary stewardship as presenting a message of the restoration of the fullness of the gospel. As it was, with the way the lessons were organized, folks were able to listen, then accept or reject at any point in time. If they rejected the message, we were on our way. Whatever happened thereafter was between them and their God. If they accepted what was taught each time we visited, then we continued with the lessons. That was also between them and their God. We were just the messengers.

How God deals with His children in the afterlife according to what they have chosen to do while in the mortal body is above my pay grade. I’m willing to leave it in His hands and not get too worked up about it.

Question. if we are the only true and Living Church on the face of the Earth does that mean other Christian denominations are dead?
It means that the CofJCofLDS has the authority to baptize for remission of sins and the authority to bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost. And also the authoritative mandate to perform temple ordinances for exaltation. What is sealed on earth is sealed in the Heavens. Other Christian denominations are unable to act with authority in bestowing these ordinances and blessings. But in many other respects they are alive in preaching and encouraging their adherents to follow Christ and worship in His name.

I'll admit it, I was a hooligan as a youth. Still am. Difference between you and I is I can admit it.

You're not fair because MG previously stated "I grew up in Southern California. Our LDS youth, I can say with a surety, did not act out in a tribal superiority fashion." He implied rather directly that he wasn't that kind of person either so there really is nothing to "admit".

I served my mission in the middle of the Bible Belt of the U.S. By MG's logic, there was no need for my mission to exist, it seems.

I filled a mission in London England. The purpose of the Church was to attempt to convert as many people as possible regardless of their present or prior religious beliefs and have them join Mormonism and pledge their devotion to the Church. This of course would entail that they give up membership in their current religion and walk away from those beliefs that are out of harmony with Mormonism and to disavow their support to false religion (Church of the Devil).

That's how I remember it as a missionary. Get as many people to come over to Mormonism's brand of Christianity -- support our prophets, pay tithing, prepare to go to the temple, and receive all the ordinances the Church offers by living the tenets of Mormonism.

But I fully admit I wasn’t perfect. Not by a long shot.

It’s just that I wasn’t, and most of my friends weren’t, hooligans. Purposefully going around looking for mischief…although one time…

I really don’t think we ran around seeing ourselves as superior to our friends and classmates though. In fact, I looked up to and respected my friends who were not members of the church.

I think it's inappropriate to walk onto private property and knock on someone's door to try to convince them their religious views aren't correct.
I don't know if it's necessarily wrong to do that. People can knock on my door, and as long as they go away if I decline to invite them in, I'm not mad at them. Well, unless they interrupted a calculation. But then I get mad at everyone, even if they're my family members who have forgotten their keys.

But I do agree that knocking on people's doors to convince them they're wrong is an assertive step that invites some pushback. Conversely, I'm happy as a critic/skeptic to refrain from comment on Mormon Temple ritual. Mormons don't go around pushing Temple stuff on other people, so in asking me to respect the sacredness of their Temples, Mormons are only asking me not to go out of my way to bother them about something in which they are not bothering me. It's common courtesy to comply.
I was a teenager before it was cool.

Right, and I get that. It's not necessary for you to admit to being a hooligan when that was never in your character including the people you associated with. You should be commended for good behavior.

I think we will be seeing a lot less of missionaries knocking on doors. It's really out of fashion and people in general don't like that. The Church will find other ways to contact people and share their message. The days of knocking on doors will come to end just like the Fuller Brush man.

Does that mean you concur, or not so much?

- Doc
We don’t believe that or teach it. I certainly do not. If I weren’t Mormon, I’d be Catholic.
Do you mean the LDS church doesn’t believe that or teach it now? Or that they never believed that or taught that?

I agree 100%. Been saying the same thing for a while now. One of the first threads I started on md&d was about changing up our missionary strategy. Didn't go over that well. There's so much we could be doing to help our community, like I said before, it makes me sick seeing our churches not being used to help the community. I can drive 2 miles down a local road in my neighborhood and pass 3 to 4 christian churches a week that will have signs out front advertising services, their food pantries, concerts, out of town speakers, bands, games for kids, food trucks. I went to a Catholic fish fry years ago held in their parking lot. It was great. They would never call me as a bishop but if they did I would probably be fired within a month. I'd have a band, food truck in the parking lot, maybe a couple Hooters girls holding signs out on the sidewalk welcoming passerbys to come join us.

I'm sure you can find quotes from people, but it's not official doctrine and we don't teach that now. Brigham Young, in fact, help the Catholic church build its first cathedral in Salt Lake City.
