Yes, the database is important. I join you in hoping that the work of many a Cassius scholar and student can be relocated here.kamenraider wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:46 pmHi everybody! Hope the transition goes well and things work out with the database.

I am convinced that the Dean has managed to clone himself, perhaps more than once. How else could he flawlessly manage so many simultaneous tasks?Kishkumen wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:59 pmYes indeed! The Dean has really kept on top of things. I had no idea how much so. I remember mentioning something about the problems with the old board months ago, but then I got distracted. It seems the Dean was working quietly in the background to make sure everything came together. Kudos to him for shepherding this process with Dr. Shades!

A lot of people complain about the high salaries of university administrators, but I can assure you that the tireless Dean Gadianton P. Robbers throws everything he has into his job. If anything, he is underpaid.

You may jest, but now I have to share a real observation. Last year, about this time, I noticed Dean Robbers escorting a guest from the sub-basement laboratory on two successive Friday afternoons. This guest, I later learned, was none other than Simon Southerton. Now, upon reflection and your observation about our capable Dean's seeming effortless multiplicity of accomplishments, I just wonder... maybe?

He not only cloned himself, he cloned an entire board! We are reaching new heights here!

In German academic tradition a Dean (Dekan or Dekanin depending on gender) is to be addressed by the rather magnificent honorific Eure Spektabilität. It’s like “Your Majesty” to a monarch, “Your Grace” to a Duke, “Your Eminence” to a Cardinal or “Your Holiness” to the Pope. How splendid that academic deans are in the same category of exalted beings.
There is the nice nuance that a currently serving dean is instead addressed by those peers who have previously served in the same office, in the same department or faculty, with the abbreviated Latin honorific “Spectabilis”.
All of the above I’ve actually learned just now from the German Wikipedia. My university is a young TU that kind of laughs at all that stuff and the occasional smiling mumbles of Spectabilis by my colleagues among each other have only served to alert me that something was going on about that. One of these days I’m going to get dinged to do the job myself, though, so it’s good that I finally looked the matter up. I can be in on the jokes.

Fascinating stuff, PG! I guess I either did not know or forgot that you are teaching at a German university.Physics Guy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 12:38 pmIn German academic tradition a Dean (Dekan or Dekanin depending on gender) is to be addressed by the rather magnificent honorific Eure Spektabilität. Re: Mormon Discussions needs your help!
Thanks to seven generous donators so far, we've almost reached our goal of $500.00 to secure the old domain name and the database. (Am I allowed to name the specific amount we've raised?) By means of total transparency, the gatekeeper to both of these things, Mav, is being very difficult to get in touch with, but if we aren't eventually successful all funds will be used for next year's hosting. Or refunded, at the donors' preference.
TO THOSE SEVEN DONORS: I APPRECIATE YOU INCREDIBLY MUCH!! I could kiss each of you right now. You could even say that I love you.
EVERONE: I can't possibly stress enough how instrumental Dean Robbers, a.k.a. the user "Gadianton" who started this thread, has been to the rescue of Mormon Discussions, t.k.a. (temporarily known as) "DiscussMormonism.com." I honestly can't thank him enough. That's not hyperbole; I literally can't thank him enough. The old features such as titles, autocorrect, etc. will come creeping back steadily, and I'm confident that we (oh, who am I kidding? "He") will be able to add more useful tweaks, additions, and features to enhance everyone's experience here as time goes on.
To give credit where credit is due, there have been a few others who were HELPFUL BEYOND MEASURE in the board's rescue, but I don't know if they wish to be identified. Let any or all of them come forth as any or all of them wish.
GADIANTON, a.k.a. GADIANTON P. ROBBERS, a.k.a. DEAN ROBBERS, a huge and hearty THANK YOU for saving my baby!!
