The paranoia is out of control ridiculous. People need to calm down and go bake some bread and share it for Christmas for crying out loud. Go out and do something nice for someone already man. It is a much more enjoyable way to breathe and live, I assure you.
If it makes you feel any better I offered to buy a stranger a Christmas tree today because he didn’t have the money and his kid wanted one. If anyone reads this, I challenge you to follow Philo’s advice. It feels alright.

Our usual routine is to convert our copious supply of home-grown culinary pumpkins into holiday loaves. Already sent about a dozen. Got about two dozen more to go.

It’s not as nice a gesture as buying a tree for someone, but they are definitely easier to wrap. : )

Welp. Guess we'll have to burn down our democracy for the choices we made then. Oh, well!

Exactly. I have had many chances to connect with folks over the past 9 months when I was basically trapped--which I still am. Sometimes it was me doing the giving and sometimes I was the one who benefited from the generosity of others. Like the lady from my gardeners Facebook group who came and hung a bag of seeds on the mailbox when I was desperate for something to grow this summer. What you say about giving is so important. It gives you a chance to connect. I think that is the antidote for all the polarization we see in the world and I always have believed that. Plus it'll make you smile. :-)

That is really cool! I just mentioned the lady who gave me seeds this summer. Then I had a chance to give spider plant babies to one of my Facebook gardener friends, too. Another woman just before winter, was asking for our dead plants for her compost. I yanked everything that was left from the Earth Boxes and dropped them by her driveway. I have had multiple opportunities to help out someone else during this pandemic. It always makes me feel good to be able to help. But those seeds...those were solid gold to me this summer! I do what I can even in small ways...sometimes just listening to someone who needs to talk. Lord knows I can't go work a Covid floor, but I do know how to listen!

Oh no. I feel a recipe thread coming on. ;-)

I love these exchanges I'm just now replying to. These are the kinds of things that I care about most in the world. People things.

Last month, a federal appeals court blocked one of the key permits for construction of a massive natural gas pipeline that cuts through West Virginia and that industry officials and their political allies in the state are desperate to see completed.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that environmental groups are likely to prevail in a case arguing federal and state regulators wrongly approved the Mountain Valley Pipeline through a streamlined review process for which the project isn’t eligible.

In October 2018, the same appeals court blocked the same $5.4 billion pipeline because the developer’s plan to temporarily dam four West Virginia rivers didn’t meet special restrictions that state regulators had put on the streamlined approval process.
But rather than pausing or rethinking the project at the time, the state Department of Environmental Protection rewrote its construction standards so that the pipeline would qualify.

After their most recent court loss, West Virginia officials are once again rewriting their restrictions to help pave the way for the pipeline to qualify for that streamlined permitting process.

“Here we go again,” citizen group lawyer Derek Teaney wrote in frustration in the latest of a series of legal challenges to the government agencies that have bent environmental standards for the pipeline.

When it is built, the Mountain Valley Pipeline, known as MVP, will transport natural gas from Wetzel County, near West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle, to Pittsylvania County, Virginia, crossing 200 miles in West Virginia and 100 miles in Virginia. The project is one of several large transmission pipelines in the works across Appalachia, part of the rush to market natural gas from drilling and production in the Marcellus Shale formation.

Political leaders and business boosters in West Virginia have been big supporters of such projects, hoping that the rise of natural gas would replace jobs and tax revenues lost as the coal industry declines. But some state residents worry that West Virginia’s drive to encourage gas comes with the same environmental costs as its historic dependence on coal.

So far, the promise that natural gas would bring an economic renaissance to West Virginia has not come true.

I don’t see evidence that Trump Administration incompetence can be openly blamed for this sort of thing, but it’s just one more item for the legacy of these folks, while the country was under its watch:
WASHINGTON—Multiple federal government agencies, including the U.S. Treasury and Commerce departments, have had some of their computer systems breached as part of a widespread global cyber espionage campaign believed to be the work of the Russian government, according to officials and people familiar with the matter.

Russia’s foreign-intelligence service is suspected of being behind the hacks of the U.S. government networks—in which some internal communications are believed to have been stolen—and the operation is related to a cyber breach disclosed last week of U.S.-based cybersecurity firm FireEye, one of the people familiar with the matter said.

The person added that several government agencies in total have likely been compromised.

The hacking operation exposed as many as hundreds of thousands of government and corporate networks to potential risk and alarmed national-security officials in the Trump administration as well as executives at FireEye, some of whom view it as far more significant than a routine case of foreign cyber espionage, people familiar with the matter said.

While those familiar with the hack couldn’t precisely specify its scope or the resulting damage to the U.S. government, several described it as among the most potentially worrisome cyberattacks in years, because it may have allowed Russia to access sensitive information from government agencies, defense contractors and other industries. One person familiar with the matter said the campaign was a “10” on a scale of one to 10, in terms of its likely severity and national-security implications.

We'll soon find out that it can't be Russia,

Putin will call Trump and tell him, so then Trump will accept his word for it, and we can forget about it

It's all a hoax.
