Meh. It was alright. Maybe for posting on discussmormonism.com or reddit. Whatever the case may be, Epstein's hit job worked. I crap you not, a neighbor posted on Nextdoor his Ring footage of thieves checking his car doors - and some damned Magatard jumps on the thread with Jill Biden dissertation references and then tries to swing the conversation to Jill Biden's utter stupidity or whatever.Icarus wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:10 pmMichael Austin writes a great article about this...

Re: Carlson Attacks on Dr. Jill Biden
If history has taught us anything, it's that you can get right wingers to believe anything. They are sheep. They are dumb as a damned rock. They have no concept of independent thought. It only takes one idiot on right wing media to say something, anything to criticize someone "on the left" (which really means anyone who isn't insanely, extremely right wing), and they'll all start popping off about it like the mindless seagulls in Finding Nemo.
They are what is known as the lowest common denominator. Human progress moves at their pace, which is why we keep going backwards. They don't like being called stupid primarily because it's the only thing they really know is true.

Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

Recognized titles for academic achievement and certifications should be used in professional correspondence and work products more often than not. Dr. titles or Ph.D. designations can enhance credibility, especially early on. Doctorates on resumes can make a big difference in attracting early stage investment for tech oriented companies. All else being equal, the difference in investor interest between a company with zero Ph.D.s on staff, and a company with two or more, can be dramatic. P.E. licenses on resumes don't hurt either.
In our shop, Ph.D.s are sometimes introduced initially as "Dr.", but thereafter remain on a first name basis with everyone with whom they interact. In addition to use in correspondence, including the *Dr.* or *Ph.D.* on a business card (preferably a Ph.D. after the name only) can also be helpful, especially in initial contacts and especially outside the UK, US and Canada.
Jill Biden has every right to use her earned title of Dr. whenever she feels it appropriate. I for one will be proud to have someone in the White House with a doctorate, especially a female. Sure beats the hell out of the current "model".

This is a silly side-show. Who really cares if Dr. Biden wants to be called that or if others do so? Carlson needs to drop it and avoid this kind of nit-picky nonsense in the future.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.

Re: Carlson Attacks on Dr. Jill Biden
I looked up the University of Delaware, where I think Biden got her degree. Currently, the EdD in Educational Leadership (what used to be referred to as Ed Admin) requires a portfolio instead of a dissertation, just as I thought. This paper that critics are yelling about would probably been part of that larger portfolio. If that's the case, it wouldn't have had to meet the same standards as a dissertation.
For what it's worth, EdDs head up major school districts all over the country. Most of these superintendents rightfully insist on being referred to as Dr. So-and-so.
Most top tier universities with Ed Admin programs, for certifying principals and district administrative personnel, will hire an EdD or two (along with their PhDs) to round the practical side of their programs.
As DrW and others have noted, it's all about credibility. And trying to rob someone else of it.

I find it interesting that our resident optometrist is absent from this discussion. What say you, Dr Ajax?

Re: Carlson Attacks on Dr. Jill Biden
May i mention that enquiries amongst a number of UK academics reveals that they commonly find themselves addressed in correspondence by (e.g.) US based scholars or editors of US journals seeking book reviews etc. as 'Dr XXX', which appears on this basis to be a normal way of addressing someone who in virtue of their academic status may be presumed to have a PhD? This occurs even when the UK person addressed is the holder of a professorial chair, in which case the normal UK form would be 'Professor XXX'; they presume this form may not be used in the same way because in the US anybody who teaches a university course may be 'a professor'.
At any rate, it seems perfectly normal to refer to 'Dr Jill Biden', just as one referred to 'Dr Henry Kissinger', and so on. The only reason for suggesting otherwise would seem to be as a way of discharging the rage of Republicans who don't believe anybody had a right to beat Trump in both the popular vote and the electoral college. Because they are cowardly and unmanly scum, they do it by attacking the wife of the man who did it.
Sad.
